Last week we heard from Telly Papanikolaou, CEO of Alternatives For the Older Adult. Telly gave us an enlightening presentation on all of the various services available
One Person at a time, one family at a time, one day at a time, Alternatives Professionals will connect with more than 15,000 individuals this coming year to navigate solutions forwards…together.
Alternatives provides support for Care Coordination of individuals, Adult Protective Services, an Ombudsman program that can represent individuals needing assistance navigating the many services and problems that can occur in old age, Caregiver Support, and Money Management.
Alternatives’ Care Coordinators are experts in the field of aging (certified by the Illinois Department on Aging) who will sit down and help develop a plan of care that will meet the individual’s/caregiver’s needs so that they can remain in their homes for a longer period of time.
Adult Protective Services Program refers to a resident age 18-59 living with a disability or an adult 60 years of age or older and living in an independent setting (rather than in a long-term setting). The alleged abuser has a relationship with, and has continued access to, the alleged victim. Anyone can report Abuse. All information regarding the report is completely confidential. Abuse and neglect can look like any of the following: Physical Abuse, Passive Neglect, Financial Exploitation, Emotional Abuse, Confinement, Deprivation, Sexual Abuse, Self-Neglect, or Abandonment.
The Ombudsman Program employs advocates for residents who live in licensed, long-term care facilities, i.e. nursing homes, shelter care, assisted living, supportive living and group homes.
In the Caregiver Support Program, they offer support for anyone caring for a senior, an individual with a diagnosis of dementia, and for grandparents raising grandchildren. We currently offer supportive counseling, resource information and linkage, and access to available grant funding for respite and supplemental needs.
The Money Management Program is a support program that matches trained and bonded staff or volunteers with older adults and adults with disabilities who need help managing their finances. Staff and volunteers can organize and pay bills, establish and maintain budgets, assist in applying for financial programs and assist with setting and achieving financial goals.
