Last week we did not have a speaker, so our regular meeting agenda was expanded.
District 6420 2024 Training AssemblyGary Francque reported on his attendance at the District 6420 2024 Training Assembly held at Sauk Valley College, Sterling on April 6, 2024. The program included updates by District Governor Dave Emerick ( East Moline-Silvis) and District Governor Elect John Hurley (Loves Park), and District Budget & Financial Review. Breakout sessions included Public Image for Clubs, District Youth Protection Policy, Youth Exchange Program, Using ClubRunner, and Rotary Foundation. Gary Francque is one of two district coordinators and trainers on the Youth Protection Policy. DGE John Hurley announced that his 2024-25 District Project will be Pollinator Plots, a concerted effort to address the worldwide crisis of a shortage of pollinators such as bees and other insects. A slide presentation, which will make its way around to district Rotary Clubs, was presented by PDG Bobbi Burke, the D6420 project Chairperson.

Youth Exchange Exchange Student Joao Miguel reported on two happy experiences. First he received a "care package" from his mother Daiane Miguel in Brazil containing bottles of Guarana, his favorite Brazilian soda and other goodies, and Brazilian peanut brittle for host parent Gary Francque.
The other happy experience involves Fareway grocery store.
Joao's friends work at Fareway and he felt that it would be a great "American experience" to work there. Recently he was touring the store and met the manager, and Joao ended up being presented with an official Fareway uniform with name tag, which he considers one of his top thrills so far.
Rotary Dictionary ProjectAnika Martin reported on upcoming dictionary labeling and distribution to schools.
Club ProjectHeather Calvert reported on a volunteer opportunity of participating in flower planting at Butterworth Center - Deere Wiman House on Saturday May 18th, 9:00am - noon.
Alan Anderson encouraged Rotarians to volunteer for this project in lieu of a club Spring cleanup.
Rotary District 6420 ConferenceMembers reminded to register for the 2024 District Conference to be held at Stoney Creek Inn, Moline, on April 26th & 27th.
Solar EclipseMembers were reminded of the solar eclipse event that was about to occur after the meeting.
