 Last Monday we heard from Detective Mamadou Diallo from the Moline Police Department. Introduced by MPD Chief Darren Gault as an extraordinary police officer and asset for the community, Detective Diallo is now serving as the Police Liaison Officer at Wilson Middle School, Moline, his alma mater. Detective Diallo talked about his journey from Africa to Moline; his experience learning about American culture living in Springbrook Courts, a Moline public housing complex; and befriending Moline PD Officer Jon Leech, who showed so much care for him and mentored him, ultimately inspiring him to pursue a career in law enforcement. Det. Diallo continues his quest to be that mentor to kids, and counselor to families, and since he speaks several languages and African dialects, he especially serves those who are part of the many ethnicities in the Moline School system.  "It's a Small World" Note: Gary Francque's daughter, Jennifer Heckenkamp, was one of Detective Diallo's 4th grade teachers at Washington Elementary School, Moline, over 15 years ago. She and fellow teachers frequently talked about what an amazing boy he was. Gary met Mamadou when he was 10 years old at Washington, and learned that he wanted to be a police officer. Gary recalls saying, "I can't wait!" And years later, here he is, as amazing as ever!  |
