MPD News Update
MPD Chief Darren Gault reported on the department's acquisition of Shiloh an electronics detection canine funded through the federal program Operation Underground Railroad. The dog will be used to detect certain electronic devised used to store evidence of fraud, child pornography, and other crimes.
Humble DwellingsMark Carlson reported on he and Matt Sharer volunteering for another Humble Dwellings move in of furniture for a needy family. Mark encouraged Rotarians to consider volunteering for the next event.
Premier PartnersMark Carlson & Gary Francque reported on the their participation in the Moline - Coal Valley School District's "Premier Partners" event on November 14th at the Bartlett Center for Performing Arts Center at which Moline Rotary Club was recognized along with several other community organizations for their support of the students and staff within the school district. The Club was presented with a "Premier Partners" Certificate of Appreciation. Several other Moline Rotarians were also in attendance representing other community organizations.
Rotarians Honored at City CouncilPast President Alan Anderson reported on his appearance before the Moline City Council at which Moline Rotary Club was recognized for our citywide "Cleanup" efforts. Alan displayed a plaque presented to him. Past President Laura Davis reported on her company Midland - Davis also receiving recognition at City Council for her company's role in protecting the environment by conducting recycling operations.
Youth Exchange News Youth Exchange Officer Gary Francque reported on the Quad Cities Youth Exchange Weekend conducted on November 18th & 19th. Inbound Youth Exchange Students who are here in Rotary District 6420 are hosted in the Quad Cities for a weekend of American cultural experiences and fun. Student included Sophie from Denmark. Elise from Belgium, Chama from Thailand and our own Joao from Brazil. Student's experiences included attending the Quad City Arts Holiday Parade and the Festival of Trees Exposition, learning about the history of American music at the Common Chord - River Music Experience studios, learning about American agriculture and John Deere's role in world agriculture, learning about Belgian immigrants in Moline at the Center for Belgian Culture, and having a blast at the TBK Sports Entertainment Center, Bettendorf. After a long day students unwound and stayed overnight at the beautiful home of Moline Rotarian Jerry Butts. Thanks to Rotary volunteer drivers / chaperones Nicole Zook and Deni McCarter, fellow event coordinator Melinda Urban, and Jerry Butts.
