Last week we heard from two of our esteemed Rotarians as the club renews the tradition of Classification Talks. Classification Talks are an opportunity for club members to spend 5-10 minutes talking about their work / life. Their purpose is to help us get to know each other a little better. Please see Mark, Sam, or Eric if you are interested in giving a classification talk! Last week we heard from Sam Moyer and Mark Carlson.
Sam MoyerSam is the President / CEO of Ecumenical Housing Development Group. 
 Founded in 1994 to provide affordable housing in the QC Area. Our mission is to end poverty by creating housing that is safe, affordable, and reduces poverty determinants. We know that lack of fresh, nutritious food, medical care, parks, good schools, and transportation can make escaping poverty hard so one of our major goals is to develop housing in neighborhoods where there is greater opportunity to flourish. EHDG has 50 Properties and 200 units of housing in its inventory. We are in the middle of a major LIHTC (Low Income Housing Tax Credit) reconstruction project that is preserving 42 units of housing and creating 3 new units. Next year we will be rehabbing 112 more units and converting the Priester Building at 601 Brady into 27 units of senior housing. Our growth has been rapid and expect to more than double our units by 2030.
Sam is very proud that their housing is safe, clean, and well-maintained. Housing that is newly acquired is quickly and throughly brought up to their standards.

"In this case we bought a former day care that had been vacant for at least 4 years and was in pretty bad shape. Three families are moving into it starting this week. We have spent the past 90 days doing a total rehab to create three apartments that are fully ADA compliant", reported Sam. Mark Carlson
