Vice Admiral Lunday assumed the duties as Commander, Atlantic Area in May 2022 where he is responsible for directing Coast Guard forces and operations across all mission areas in five Districts from the Navigable Inland Waterways east of the Rocky Mountains to the Great Lakes, Gulf Coast, and East Coast of the United States throughout the Atlantic Ocean and adjacent parts of the Arctic Ocean to the Arabian Gulf. He also serves as Commander, Coast Guard Defense Forces East, providing Coast Guard support as part of the joint force to the Department of Defense and Combatant Commanders for national defense missions. He is also appointed and serves as the Director, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Joint Task Force East, responsible for coordinating and synchronizing DHS cross-component operations to address threats to the southeast U.S. border and approaches.

MHS Interact Club
It's full speed ahead with the 2023 QC Student Hunger Drive. Interact Club coordinator Gary Francque led an impromptu club collection that yielded $309.00 for the MHS Student Hunger Drive.
Interact Club VP Ankit Rajvanshi presented a report on the club's fundraising and food collection activities.
The MHS Interact Club had a great time handing out candy to the kids at the Homecoming Parade on Avenue of the Cities.
Youth Exchange News
Exchange Student Joao Miguel reported on his participation in the 2023 MHS Homecoming parade, attendance at the Homecoming football game, and the Homecoming student dance.

Joao Miguel and YEO Gary Francque will spend the weekend of October 21st in Rockford, participating in the Rotary District 6420 Inbound Youth Exchange weekend event, hosted by the Rockford and Loves Park Rotary Clubs.

Dance Me a Story: Exploring Literature through Ballet—all ages

Dance Me a Story is a fun interactive dance program for people of all ages encouraging reading through the vehicle of ballet. Dance Me a Story gives participants a physical and imaginative way of interpreting a piece of literature by taking specific passages from a book and translating the words into creative movement. This program is designed for people of all ages and abilities and has been enjoyed by 25,000 participants since it began in 2014.
The story of Vampirina Ballerina takes young readers through the rewarding work of trying their best and reaching big goals through small steps!
