Moline Rotary Plaza Dedicated

MOLINE - Rotary Club of Moline held a Community Ice Cream Social at Rotary Plaza on September 22, 2016 to celebrate the official Ribbon Cutting dedication of the park. The community event, focused on families, included free Whitey's ice cream, popcorn and refreshments, performances by the Moline High School Jazz Ensemble, and equipment displays manned by Moline Police Department and Moline Fire Department officers. Also present were mascot Rascal from the Quad City River Bandits, and anti-bullying mascot Pete the Purple Bull and dance group RusHour.

 

The Plaza ribbon cutting ceremony featured Moline Rotary Club officers and community dignitaries including Mayor Scott Raes, City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher, and Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors. To commemorate the clubs' 100th year Anniversary in 2014, Moline Rotary members raised funds and financed the creation of Rotary Plaza, 1640 6th Avenue, Moline, a small community park in Moline's downtown district. The park includes walkways, gardens, Rotary benches, and picnic tables all for the use of citizens to relax and enjoy the downtown atmosphere at the hub of city government, Moline City Hall and the Moline Police Department Headquarters. The Rotary Plaza park finally completes the 2005 vision of city officials and architects planning the Police Department Headquarters & City Hall campus, which was to include a public green space area on that site.
