Quad City Storm Owner John Dawson Shares Team's Future and Community Impact with Moline Rotary
New 10-year arena lease, charitable giving, and opportunities for thousands of students highlight Rotary presentation.
MOLINE, Ill. — The future of professional hockey in the Quad Cities was the focus of the Moline Rotary Club's October 19 meeting as Quad City Storm owner John Dawson shared updates on the team's long-term commitment to the community, charitable efforts, and continued growth of the Southern Professional Hockey League.
One of the biggest developments was the Storm's new 10-year lease with Vibrant Arena at The MARK, securing the team's home in downtown Moline for another decade.
Dawson credited the City of Moline, Mayor Sangeetha Rayapati, and city leadership for helping negotiate an agreement that benefits both the hockey franchise and the arena.
"The City of Moline's been good to us," Dawson told Rotary members, expressing appreciation for the partnership.
One Goal Foundation Makes a Difference
The Storm's community involvement extends well beyond the ice.
Dawson discussed the Quad City Storm One Goal Foundation, which was established to support local nonprofit organizations and charitable causes.
Through fundraising activities, jersey auctions, and other initiatives, the organization has conservatively reported raising more than $500,000 for area charities during the team's history.
Dawson believes the actual amount is closer to $800,000.
"It's honestly closer to about $800,000," he said, joking that the team's fundraising efforts sometimes outpace his recordkeeping.
The foundation provides another way for the Storm to make a lasting impact throughout the Quad Cities.
With a new 10-year commitment to Vibrant Arena, Dawson expressed excitement about the future of the franchise and its role in the Quad Cities.
The Moline Rotary Club thanks John Dawson for sharing his insights and for the Quad City Storm's continued investment in our community.
His presentation reflected Rotary's commitment to community service, local partnerships, and making a positive difference in the lives of others.
