Exchange Students Take on Chestnut Mountain!

 
ImageImageDistrict Inbound Exchange Students experienced an American Ski Resort and an 18th Century Midwest Town during Rotary District 6420’s Youth Exchange Ski Weekend in Galena, Illinois January 17-18, 2015.
Eight Inbound Exchange Students from countries including Germany, Poland, Russia, Japan, Thailand, Brazil and Ecuador were hosted by Galena Rotarians and Moline Rotarian Gary Francque. Students arrived Saturday morning at Chestnut Mountain Ski Resort and enjoyed the day skiing and snowboarding the slopes along with hundreds of American families there for the holiday weekend. Among the group our own Tonni, from Germany, and , from Japan, were the most experienced and skilled skiers, tackling even the advanced slopes. The four boys all preferred free style snow boarding.

After a full day of snow sports the students visited historic downtown Galena and toured the shops, and then returned to the Galena home of Saki’s host parents for pizza. Students were then shuttled to the lovely home of Galena Rotarian Gail Gabbert in the beautiful Galena Territories where they stayed overnight. Sunday morning, students were treated to a gourmet breakfast and then returned to their host families. Thanks to the Galena Rotary Club, especially day time host Nathan Greiner and overnight host Gail Gabbert for this great youth exchange experience!
