Moline Rotary Club is the exclusive sponsor of the Moline High School Student Recognition Award Program. The Award Program is a collaboration with the MHS Administration and Faculty. Teachers nominate students for the award at intervals of several times per academic year. The MHS Faculty and Administration, in judging the nominations, distinguish the award from traditional academic awards by not strictly applying objective academic metrics. For example, the award might be given for a singular act relating to classroom participation, improvement in performance, or extracurricular activities, all as observed by the teacher making the nomination.

The selection process promotes a high diversity in terms of the number and types of students recognized. Award certificates are distributed at a before-school weekday ceremony designed to maximize attendance by students, families, other supporters, and teachers. A Moline Rotary Club member joins teachers and school administrators, including Dr. William Burrus (MHS Principal and a member of Moline Rotary Club), in conducting the award ceremony.

At the ceremony, the Moline Rotary Club representative usually provides a brief explanation of how the Student Recognition Award Program carries out the ideals of Rotary: Service in personal, business and community life.
