2015 Year in Review

 

Our Salida Sunrise Rotary Club has a LOT to be excited about our Imagination Library Program.  We had a tremendous first year with this outstanding program!

We launched mid-March, 2015, in a joint effort between the Salida Sunrise and Buena Vista Rotary Clubs.  Our two clubs support their respective school districts, and together the entire Chaffee County is covered.  Our fun and well-attended launch parties led to a fast start on registrations of eligible children.  The publicity we received, combined with an amazing partnership with the local libraries, paved the way for a successful program.

Here are some quick facts:

 

  • At the end of 2015, our Salida School District now has 254 registrations, more than 50% of our original (and probably high) estimate of the number of children eligible (from birth to their 5th birthday). 

  • We have already seen 32 children graduate from the program (i.e., turned 5 years old). 

  • Thanks to the HRRMC Family Birthing Center’s support, we have 48 children registered who were born in 2015, and most of them were introduced to this program there.

  • We mailed 1989 books to children in our community in 2015.

Financially, this program is well funded for the next year.  The enthusiastic community support by both individuals and businesses has been simply inspiring.  Everyone recognizes the positive impact that giving books to young children has on their education and literacy development.  The feedback from parents and the children themselves has been wonderful.

We Rotarians can be very proud of this program and what it is accomplishing!
