Community Service.

The service projects committee is responsible for conducting service projects that ensure the proper use of club funds and Rotarians’ time and that benefit those in need.  The role of the committee is to lead or find members to lead the club’s service initiatives and to help develop and implement educational, humanitarian and vocational service projects that benefit the local community and communities in other countries

For the Salida Sunrise Rotary Club, the specific goal is to provide ongoing community service programs or events for club participation that will directly benefit the local community.

Routinely collect volunteer hours from club members on projects sponsored by the club AND community projects not sponsored by the club.  The intent is to track metrics against the Sunrise Service Committee goal as well as Rotary International goals.

The committee that are part of the Community Service Team include:

Imagination Library:

The Salida Sunrise Rotary Club provides books for children from the age of new born through their 5th birthday through the  Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program.  These children live in the Salida and Buena Vista School Districts.  This program was launched in March, 2015, and since then has supported over 1,200 children in Chaffee County by delivering almost 33,000 books.  This committee works with the community to be sure all parents are aware of this amazing program.

RYE/RYLA (Rotary Youth Exchange and Rotary Youth Leadership Academy):

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a program to assist high school students in developing leadership skills. The program centers on an intense, professionally led, four-day leadership training retreat. Rotary District 5470 (covering the southern half of Colorado) holds its retreat weekend in early June.  Committee members help work with the students before and after the program as well as assist in driving students to the various locations the event is held each year.

The Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) is a worldwide program that provides more than 6,000 teenagers each year an adventure of a lifetime: a chance to live, learn and become a true part of a new family, culture and way of life as a high school foreign exchange student.  Members of this committee help work with the students and assist in helping coordinate homes each year.  The Salida Sunrise Rotary sponsors an international student every other year.
