Past two weeks in Mexico left me behind in newsletters - this catch up would have been in Spanish then but John Cooper would cringe at the linguistic atrocities! The March 24th meeting saw 12 members 3 guests hear Janice Perino (Rotarian and past Mayor of Summerland) present on the South Okanagan Similkameen Foundation. Janice talked about the Foundation and Health Care in general and thanked the Rotary Club of Osoyoos for their generous donation of $25,000 a few years ago. The Regional Hospital in Penticton currently services a population of 90,000. Osoyoos, Oliver and OK Falls area population is 48.3% over the age of 65 years which tends to clearly identify who is in most need of Health Care. Janice also spoke to the lack of any more Government funds to support health care, 49% of the provincial budget in 2010 goes to Health Care and the current rate by 2017 it will be 71% of the budget. The Foundation goals for this year are 1) Urology Campaign 2) Radionthon 3) Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment equipment. Shelly then lead the cheer leading for the Osoyoos Coyotes and mentioned beer sales were over $1,000 for the first two games against Castelgar. PE Cheryle chaired the Mar 31st meeting and introduced Bobi Emblin to the 9 members in attendance as a guest for the last time as she is now our newest member. Ron Leigh was the program and he shared his 13 make up meeting experiences in Southern California and Mexico. He had quite a time and enjoyed them all. He met authors, wine makers and was always made welcome. These make ups kept Ron's 100% attendance record intact! Cheryle had two housekeeping items. 1) Reviewed the motion made at our board meeting and called the question to the group as to whether they would choose OGCC or McKia's as a year round menu and McKia's was the choice 2) The Town has asked us to get involved in running beer gardens for a couple of events coming up (Show and Shine & Water Festival) - these should be a great fund raising event for us and our reputation for alcohol association grows! Shelly asked the group to get involved with the Coyotes appreciation day. We would be flipping dogs and burgers and running our banner of support. More details to come from Shelly. Dennis brought up the Fellowship Social for April 15th at Kobau Lanes starting at 6PM. All members, spouses and family members are welcome. The Thursday April 14th meeting will be cancelled and make way for the social on Friday at Kobau, more details to follow.
