When those in living conditions where they are hungry day after day, where they do not have access to clean water or proper sanitation, or where they don’t have access to health care or education, we know that they express their appreciation to those who care for them by helping them to overcome these conditions.

The members of the Kelowna Sunrise Rotary Club, along with The Rotary Foundation, also express their appreciation and extend their congratulations to Graham Bell and Scott Rattee on their generous donations to The Rotary Foundation and particularly to the humanitarian service provided throughout the world.

Graham Bell was recognized for his achievement in reaching a level of Paul Harris Fellow + 2 (PHF+2); while Scott Rattee was recognized for attaining a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF).  A PHF award is achieved when a Rotarian donates a total of US1,000 to the Foundation; while levels beyond the PHF are recognized for each additional US$1,000 donation.

In presenting the awards to Graham and Scott on Friday, April 23rd during the club’s regular zoom meeting, club Foundation Chair Tom Paterson described how important every donation club members make to The Rotary Foundation is in making a difference in providing humanitarian support for those who continue to experience the most deplorable conditions possible from day to day, conditions that we have a difficult time even imagining.

It is so sad that nearly ten percent of the world’s population live in extreme poverty without support, on the sidelines, watching economic growth, prosperity and abundance pass they by; but not the abundance in scarcity.   Even the environment attacks people in poverty.  When nature strikes (hurricanes, floods, fires……) the world’s poor often suffer the most!

So when Rotarians like Graham and Scott share their fortunes, we are pleased and we celebrate.
