Zone 8 Regionalisation
 
     Past President Nicholas introduced us to the processes around regionalization. Zone 8 is the Rotary Region including Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands. Rotary International is considering establishing a regional governance pilot to address membership, public image, communication, and fundraising challenges to ensure our organisation thrives long into the future.
 
           
     Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands have an opportunity to be one of two  regions across the globe to pilot this new governance structure, created by RI’s Shaping Rotary’s Future Committee (SRF).    
     The overarching aim is to provide better and more direct support to clubs through a less layered, but more effective and contemporary structure. The ideals of Rotary are to be retained with the focus remaining on the Clubs and their engagement with each other and their communities.
     In addition to potentially saving members time and money, the new structure will foster more vibrant club environments and provide doable and attractive roles that are accessible to more potential Rotary leaders.
     By streamlining our existing governance structure, we will:
  • Allow clubs sharing geography, culture and language to organise in ways that suit them.
  • Eliminate duplication and remove layers of hierarchy to make Rotary nimbler and more cost effective.
  • Bring together the best resources from across the region and make them easily accessible to every club.
  • Improve communication effectiveness in order to enhance club and member engagement.
  • Grow membership through new club types, flexibility, and partnership options reflecting our diversity.
  • Attract more community, corporate, and government sector support by communicating with one voice.
  • Enhance leadership and personal development activities to better suit our modern world.
  • Foster more diverse perspectives in decision making.
  • Reduce the burden of administrative responsibilities placed upon leaders. The overarching aim is to provide better and more direct support to clubs through a less layered, but more effective and contemporary structure. The ideals of Rotary are to be retained with the focus remaining on the Clubs and their engagement with each other and their communities.
 
 
There was considerable discussion surrounding the topic and PDG George tried to give more detail around the issue.

  •  Nicholas
    • We have received a request from Ellanor Pretty for sponsorship for attendance at the NYSF session in January this year. There was some discussion about the sponsorship but a recommenation from Alan that we pay half was referred to the Board.
  • Secretary Brian
    • There is to be a meeting about ‘Stories of Resilience’ this week.  Likely to be a breakfast in November and February.
    • Brian, along with Javian and Dan, assisted by Zina Rendina planted the garden at the Showground.  Boots Civil then did the gravel around the gates.
 
  •  Dan
    • We will have a stall at Leeton Show on Saturday (in the Rotary Pavilion).  Dan is looking for volunteers to help.  Between 10am and 3 pm.
    • Chill and Grill – 14th October.  We will be manning a gate and have the BBQ van at the event. Gates 1.30 – 9pm. BBQ 2pm – 9pm.  All hands please.
    • Light up Leeton looking to change the date.  A community meeting at RAPPS on Thursday 12th at 6.30 pm.  Nicholas agreed to be our representative.
  • Barry Patten
    • Catering for Breakfast for a reunion at Yanco Institute on 22nd October.
  • A: The next letter is T. The puzzle uses a decreasing sequence in the order of the alphabet. The letters are 5,4,3,2 places after each other. K is 5 letters after F, O is 4 letters after K, R is 3 letters after 0, and T is 2 letters after R.
  • Eric: Reported on his Northern trip where he attended many Rotary Clubs. He found:
    • There were many different Clubs – Breakfast, Lunch, Zoom.
    • Some had the meeting first and dinner later.
    • Many clubs were similar to ours in numbers, make-up and the occasional female – although some clubs still have no female members.
    • A husband and wife are sharing the District Governor duties on the North Coast.
    • Eric had organized his dinner badge but never used it.

Sergeant’s Session: Geoff Beecher
 
 
Geoff was in fine form – undoubtedly buoyed by the Collingwood win.  No Rotarian escaped his attention – even those who claimed to be good all week were fined for the privilege.
Bruer and Brian were fined for using the wife excuse for skipping out on jobs. There was quite some discussion about dinner badges – Eric got one but didn’t need it; Barry didn’t get one; Kerry had agitated for a replacement for several weeks but then found his. Andrew was fined for riding his bike in the rain – turns out he was in the car.  George was fined for demonstrating his conflict resolution skills.  Nicholas designed his costume for the weekend but found he couldn’t sit down in it. George was reminded about Carol’s birthday and Alan about his Anniversary (56th!).

SEX AFTER DEATH?

A couple made a deal that whoever died first would come back and inform the other if there is sex after death. 
Their biggest fear was that there was no after life at all.
After a long life together, the husband was the first to die. True to his word, he made the first contact:

"Is that you, Bob?"
"Yes, I've come back like we agreed."
"That's wonderful! What's it like?"
"Well, I get up in the morning, I have sex. I have breakfast and then it's off to the golf course.  I have sex again, bathe in the warm sun and then have sex a couple of more times.  Then I have lunch (you'd be proud - lots of greens). Another romp around the golf course, then pretty much have sex the rest of the afternoon.  After supper, it's back to golf course again. Then it's more sex until late at night. I catch some much needed sleep and then the next day it starts all over again"
