Our Host Nicholas Wright
(TAFE Services Coordinator)

Thursday evening the club were guests of TAFE NSW and TAFE Services Coordinator, Nicholas Wright. Nicholas spoke briefly about the current TAFE restructure program and then guided the group on a tour of the Leeton campus.

TAFE NSW is Australia's largest vocational education and training provider. It comprises 130 campuses grouped by geographic area into ten institutes and offers over 1200 courses on a full or part-time basis, both on and off campus. There are 559 programs on offer including 27 specialist trade programs.

Nicholas explained that TAFE is constantly striving to stay ahead of the curve to meet the ever changing needs of industry, employers and students. In order to meet these needs it was imperative that the institution continue to evolve and innovate. The new entity, One TAFE NSW, is the modernization program that aims for a sustainable and innovative future. Their goals:

  • expand their reach
  • provide more accessible and convenient services
  • create a student-centred workforce with systems that better supports students
  • work as One TAFE, not as separate institutes
  • become more efficient and commercial

One TAFE investment will focus on:

§  revitalising campuses to create state-of-the-art learning facilities that meet industry standards and demand;

§  upgrade specialist centres in consultation with industry to support advanced training in technology-intensive, technical and trade areas;

§  broadening its reach through new digitally enabled, next generation learning environments

§  increase access to a range of mobile training services including Mobile Education Units

§  incorporate advanced digital technology into learning environments e.g. virtual reality and augmented reality, advanced simulations and cloud-based technology.

To fund the investment program, One TAFE NSW will recycle, repurpose or sell property that is underused and not fit-for-purpose to invest in the latest, state-of-the-art facilities to support students' learning.
