Rotunda Decision
The Board recommended that the Rotunda be placed in Rotary Park, and this was endorsed by the club. George Weston has done a lot of leg work surrounding the re-location and we have been promised support from Leeton Central Club and Leeton Council. The location proposed is in a thoroughfare at the park and there are no problems with utilities and we do not require a DA. George has chased up quotes and they are between $20,000 and $25,000 and this includes the ground works, a cement slab, powder coating the steel, and replacing one upright.
There was discussion about sources of funds, whether is possible that we can get some donations, to what extent the members can be involved, and time frames.

The Brain Teaser
A boy was at a carnival and went to a booth where a man said to the boy, "If I write your exact weight on this piece of paper then you have to give me $50, but if I cannot, I will pay you $50." The boy looked around and saw no scale, so he agrees, thinking no matter what the carny writes he'll just say he weighs more or less. In the end, the boy ended up paying the man $50. How did the man win the bet?

Visitor Reports
Ros Laqere
Four years ago, Ros relocated to Wagga from the Gold Coast and four weeks ago, she moved to Leeton.
She has a background in: Youth mentoring; Volunteer recruitment and management; International aid coordination; Leading community outreach teams; Community development; Advocacy for multicultural communities and particularly PALM scheme workers.
Ros has a passion for coming alongside those who leave their own country to look for better conditions of life in Australia.
She is currently a member of the Rotary E Club of Brindabella and, in 2023 she was one of only 18 women to join the Salvation Army International Social Justice Women’s Group. This group informs the UN Commission on the Status of Women on grassroots issues.
She is the mother of 5 adult sons and has one grandson and one granddaughter.
Her roles have included: Community engagement; Social justice; Building healthy communities; Spiritual oversight and creating faith pathways; One on one mentoring; Creating and facilitating community programs like the English conversion program for migrants and, The artist in Residence program.
It was really nice that we were able to welcome Ros to our meeting and hope to see her again.
Monique Owen (Past President of this Club).
As we know, Monique moved from Leeton to 1770 in 2020, but still has links to the Leeton community. She is still painting and has returned (briefly) to fulfil a painting contract on the Roxy re-development. Although she is returning to 1770 on Friday to supervise the painting work there, Richard is staying behind to supervise the work at the Roxy.
Monique is currently President of the Discovery Bay Rotary Club (10 members). They recently hosted a Big Morning Tea and raised about $6,000. She teased us with a description of her Changeover which will be a Sunset Cruise to the sand dunes of 1770.
It was so great to have Monique visit us – it seemed just like old times. Monique promised to visit us again soon. We will hold her to that!

Left Behind
While on a road trip, an elderly couple stopped at a roadside restaurant for lunch. After finishing their meal, they left the restaurant and resumed their trip.
When leaving, the elderly woman unknowingly left her glasses on the table, and she didn’t miss them until they had been driving about twenty minutes.
By then, to add to the aggravation, they had to travel quite a distance before they could find a place to turn around — in order return to the restaurant to retrieve her glasses.
All the way back, the elderly husband became the classic grouchy old man.
He fussed and complained and scolded his wife relentlessly during the entire return drive. The more he chided her — the more agitated he became. He just wouldn’t let up one minute. To her relief, they finally arrived at the restaurant.
As the woman got out of the car and hurried inside to retrieve her glasses, the old geezer yelled to her, “While you’re in there, you might as well get my hat and the credit card.”

Off the Grid
My friend decided on a tree-change, so he left the city and started to build off-grid. He then began to seriously worry about how he was going to source sufficient water – so I sent him a ’Get Well’ card.
