Jemma Iarossi – Riverina Stage Play
Jemma moved to Leeton with her family after many years in California. She decided to set up the Riverina Stage Play as a social outlet. The first production was Calamity Jane – staged in Narrandera. The production was free to avoid copyright issues. (Surprisingly, Calamity Jane is not copyright in the USA where it was written but is in Australia). Despite getting the venue for free, the group had to pay for sound and lighting and so it was self-funded, although there were donations from some individuals and the audience. Debbie and Michael made the sets from Cardboard and Jemma bartered to get the costumes.
Carmel vouched for the fact that the play was great. (ed comment: I also have a daughter who raved about the production.)
The next production will be “One Night on a Wagon Train.” It is a self-written prequel to Calamity Jane. It has a fixed beginning, end and plot line but there is scope for improvisation. It will be at the Roxy (7pm) on 15th February. The Roxy get $2 for every ticket sold so the entrance fee is $10. The group still have to pay for sound and lighting. Debbie and Michael are again providing the set.
The group meet to rehearse at Yanco Club on a Wednesday night. They have four participants from Kurrajong and Jemma is happy to provide a little more responsibility than they have had in the past.
They need an audience of at least 150 to cover the major costs.
The group have some aspirations for other events – including a Halloween function in Graham Park – complete with decorated cars. Jemma noted that Halloween is not so big in Australia but some organization will make a great event.
Jemma was thanked by Carmel. There is no doubt that the members were very impressed by the enthusiasm and ambition that was evident in Jemma’s talk.

Been There Done That
I had a problem with my computer yesterday, so I called Eric, the 11-year-old boy next door.
Eric clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem.
As he was walking away, I called after him,
“So, what was wrong?”
He replied, “It was an ID ten T error.”
I didn’t want to appear stupid, but nonetheless asked, “An ID ten T error? What’s that?”
Eric grinned… “Haven’t you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?”
“No.” I replied.
“Write it down,” he said, “and I think you’ll figure it out.”
So, I wrote it down: “ID10T.”
To think I used to like Eric.
