Acting President for the evening Peter welcomed Maggie Chant and her father Greg to this week’s Club get together.
Fifteen year old Maggie and her father Greg who live in Glenrowan West travelled to Leeton prior to Maggie’s departure to Denmark in January. Maggie who has been approved as an outbound Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) student from another District needed another Club to sponsor her, this is where our Club agreed to sponsor Maggie as an outgoing RYE student.
Maggie attends school at Cathedral College Wangaratta and enjoys playing various sports including netball and riding her horse as well as reading a good book. She enjoys science and math, but finds humanities interesting as well. She is also interested in listening to music although she doesn't play any instruments and has taken part in some considerable hikes.
Maggie hopes her RYE experience will allow her to mature, become more cultured and in her words ‘worldly’, all whilst becoming fluent in Danish.
Maggie would like to learn about new cultures from around the world, as she is interested in the history of the country and day to day life. She is excited about learning a new language as being bilingual would make communication with people easier especially if she travels later in life. Maggie said she wanted to participate in RYE as she wants to travel, loves meeting new people, learning about their life in another country and will enjoy the challenges that will come from this experience.
Denmark was Maggie’s second preference after Switzerland. When asked why Denmark she told us about meeting and talking with a Danish Agricultural exchange student who resided with her great grandmother. Maggie thanked the Club for sponsoring her and providing her with what she said will be an amazing unforgettable experience.
Maggie’s father Greg on behalf of himself and his wife Kate, thanked the Club saying they were very appreciative of the Club for providing his daughter with this opportunity.

Leeton Chill & Grill
Leeton Chill & Grill is an annual 'pop-up' foodie event featuring a number of different cuisines, local produce, street food vendors and live music. This year the event returned to Leeton's Mountford Park with some great activities and amusements to entertain the kids and a bigger focus on music to "chill" to.
Of course, it wouldn't be right to chill on an empty stomach so there was plenty of tasty fare on offer from great food and drink stalls!
A big thank you to everyone who assisted in whatever way or on the day to make this event a success. A special thanks to Maggie Chant who donned a purple apron and helped out, doing a fantastic job. Her assistance was greatly appreciated and a credit especially considering the travel involved just to be there on the day. Thank you Maggie!

Rotary District 9705 Conference
This purpose of the Conference held last week in Wagga Wagga was to inspire to make imagined opportunities become a reality, helping to achieve a respectfully focused improvement on not only ourselves but the communities - local, regional, national and international - we serve.
In coming RYE student Hanna provided us with a rounded of the District Conference of which she participated in last week saying it was an awesome experience. Hanna thoroughly enjoyed the event, had so much fun and was able to meet and talk to other exchange students from around the world.
