Last week the club held our first Board meeting for 2020, and we discussed a range of issues important to our members.
Club Volunteering Shirts
Are our shirts uncomfortable? Would we like to use a more natural and breathable material in future, given our hot climate?
Since our stocks are running low and we have an adequate range of sizes, an order may need to be placed anyway, so why not consider possible improvements and explore the options?
This is a question that may be put to members at some point, so I will leave you all to think on it.

Membership
Discreetly getting to know potential new members, making sure they spend some time with us as guests, and proposing them to the board and membership as new members is the main task of the Director of Membership, however no single person can meet enough people in the first place to start them on that journey. The board agreed that we would like all members to reflect on who they know in Leeton who might enjoy our fellowship, and add to the general congeniality of the club socially and in our service activities.
Please think about it and talk to Monique if you have a brainwave. I personally hadn't considered that dimension of being in Rotary and when I did, I realised I know quite a few people whom I could stand to spend a few meals with at the MIA Club. I am sure I am not the only one.
Working With Children Check (WWCC)
Like sand through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives. Time can fly, but did you know that the WWCC is only valid for 5 years? At $80 or so, it is a reasonable price; only $16 per year, or $1.33 per month. A bargain! The word from on high is that we really do need to make sure we have all our paperwork sorted out, the i's dotted and the t's crossed.

The Rotary Club of Leeton Annual Paperpushing Bash
Rotary is steeped in tradition, but as some traditions fall gracefully from use, others more appropriate for the times rise in their place.
This year's inaugural Bash will be dedicated to our 2019-20 Treasurer, Geoff Beecher, whose birthday falls on the 12th March, one of our proposed event dates.
Our other thought is to hold the Bash when we have more time, on Saturday 14th March. We have a range of free options for venues, not least the TAFE.

If you have objections or strong opinions please speak up now. You must have your WWCC credentials ready by that week's meeting at the minimum, as the board is determined to make sure that our club is compliant with the directives on youth protection.
Going forward I will be approaching you as individuals to find out about what we can do to help you more easily manage your duties as members, whether that is help with using Clubrunner or My Rotary, or computers more generally. Some of us are more savvy with technology than others but whether we like it or not, so much is done online these days that we don't necessarily have a choice. As part of Rotary, however, you are not alone. We can all help each other and that is something I look forward to doing as your friend and fellow member. Please approach me at the meeting or by phone any time if you would like any assistance figuring out what you need to do. You can also still go to Service NSW (formerly RMS) and make enquiries in person about the WWCC, so if that is your only immediate option before the 12th March please pencil that in so that you can take the necessary time during their opening hours.
Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE)
Members may have recieved an email from Sue Gordon, our District RYE Committee Secretary, regarding a call for nominations of potential candidates for an overseas youth exchange. Of course as you probably know, this comes with a mutual obligation to take in a student from abroad.
I call upon all members to seriously consider whether they know of a suitable student in our community whom we could nominate for the RYE, and also to think about the possibility of becoming a host family. I was an exchange student back in the day, and I have always intended to pay that forward one day.
It might be someday soon, for any one of us!

This week 20th Feb we are at the MIA Club, but not in the back dining room. Due to a one-off special event booking, we will take our meal in the partitioned area of the main ballroom, nearest to the bar - the real bar!

TEDflix and Chill
The week of RYDA our dinner meeting will be at the MIA Club again on February 27th, and in place of having a guest speaker, we will be showing a documentary about Shelterbox, a cause which our club has supported for many years.
This will be a less formal evening given that so many of us will have spent our energies out at the last day of Ryda that day.
