This week our Club was invited to attend the official launch of the NIDA Connect Program in partnership with RIPA on behalf of Leeton Shire Council.

The NIDA Connect Program is a collaboration between the National Institute of Dramatic Art and Leeton Shire Council together with Leeton’s burgeoning Roxy Institute of Performing Arts (RIPA).

The NIDA Connect Program will support emerging local talent from our region to refine their skills in a variety of fields within the entertainment industry.

Our Club participated in this exciting milestone with an evening of canapés and drinks as we were introduced to the NIDA Connect Program and our Local Teaching Artists.

Among the speakers was Leeton’s very own Jake Speer who has progressed his career and who would have benefited from a program like RIPA meaning who could have lived at home for longer.

Guests also received an update on the Roxy Redevelopment by Katherine Herrmann and were invited to register for a site tour of the Roxy to see the refurbishment progression for themselves.

Carmel’s Brain Teaser

You are in a room that has three switches and a closed door.  The switches control three light bulbs on the other side of the door.  Once you open the door, you may never touch the switches again.  How can you definitively tell which switch is connected to each of the light bulbs?

  • Answer: Turn on the first two switches. Leave them on for five minutes.  Once five minutes has passed, turn off the second switch, leaving one switch on. Now go through the door.  The light that is still on is connected to the first switch.  Whichever of the other two is warm to the touch is connected to the second switch.  The bulb that is cold is connected to the switch that was never turned on.

Carmel’s Optical Illusion Photo

Penthouse Pool?  Or coastal lake?
This optical illusion photo of Lake Sørvágsvatn in the Faroe Islands (between Iceland and Norway) appears as though it sits hundreds of feet above the ocean.  In reality, the lake only sits about 90 feet above the sea!  A waterfall at one end tumbles dramatically into the ocean, but when capturing this amazing view from the right angle the lake seems like a natural infinity pool, hovering above the North Sea.
