Fellowship at the Wade Hotel
 
 
A very laid-back evening. Some notes:
  •  Javian had never seen beetroot in a burger before. Not too bad!  He also managed to get some extra chips but would have got more if he hadn’t shifted away from Carmel.
  • George enjoyed the cutlets and chips sans salad.
  • Laurie got worried that he was going to miss out on the meal.  How long does it take to cook veges?
  • Apparently Bruer got into the swing in Phillip Island.
  • We were taken to task for not noticing the swish hair-do and flash fingernails (Alan excepted).

Chill and Grill – 14th October
This was a very well patronised event.  We were responsible for the BBQ and for manning a gate.  While sales were steady during the afternoon, they really picked up around dinner time (particularly when other stalls began running out of food).  The sausage sandwiches and cheese and bacon hamburgers were both popular. Unfortunately, the burgers gradually became just bacon hamburgers, then just rissole burgers, and finally, just rissoles on a napkin before we completely ran out of food.
Welcome to Eric for his debut on the Rotary BBQ. Congratulations to Dan who organized the panic to perfection.

  • Secretary Brian:
    • Next week’s meeting is on Tuesday 24th at the Hydro (6 for 6.30).  It will be a combined meeting with Leeton Central to aid World Polio Day.  Price will be $35 with $10 going to support the Pollio fund.  Partners very welcome. Apologies to Weston and Weston by Monday if possible. There will be no meeting on Thursday 26th.
    • Australia Post Grant Resilience Grant. A meeting between Brian, Nicholas, Mary Errey and Mariann Ianelli decided that the first ‘Resilience’ breakfast function will be on Wednesday 15th November.  Speakers are being arranged and all Rotarians are encouraged to attend.
    • Brian and Nicholas travelled to Junee yesterday for a Men’s Health function ‘Are you Bogged Mate’. Keynote speaker was Mary O’Brien.
  • George – Update on the Rotunda in Chelmsford Place.
    • The Rotunda was dismantled yesterday.
    • Pieces were labelled and it is stored at the Council Depot.
    • The Rotary Wheel is with Josh Clyne
    • We need to decide on its future.
  • Community Director Barry
    • Catering for the Reunion Breakfast at Yanco Institute on 22nd. 7.30 am for an 8.30 serving. All Hands welcome.
  • A:  The shirt has 10 holes. There are the 6 bullet holes, the 2 sleeve holes, and the neck and waist holes.

IRISH ROTARIANS:
 
Two Irish Rotarians were working to beautify the city streets.
 
One would dig a hole and the other would follow behind him and fill the hole in.

They worked up one side of the street, then down the other, then moved on to the next street, working furiously all day without rest, one man digging a hole, the other filling it in again.
An onlooker was amazed at their hard work but couldn't understand what they were doing. So, he asked the hole digger, " I'm impressed by the effort you two Rotarians are putting into your work, but I don't get it: why do you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it up again?"
The hole digger wiped his brow and sighed, "Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we're normally work as a three-person team. But today the Rotarian who plants the trees called in sick!"
