Farewell Jennifer

We gathered at Circa 21 to farewell Jennifer who is moving to Melbourne to be closer to family.

It was a sad occasion in a way to be saying farewell to a very valuable member but a happy occasion to see so many partners and guests for the evening.

President Geoff thanked Jennifer for her service and Brian did a great job in reciting one of his (now famous) ditties to honour Jennifer’s contribution to our club and to District 9075.

We feasted on pizzas and coctails organized by Brian and generally had a great time on this happy/sad occasion.

Farewell and good luck Jennifer, We will miss you!

Brain Teaser

One day, the police found a man dead inside a hut. In his left hand, he was holding a gun. In his right hand, he had a recording device. When the recording was played, the police heard the man talking about how horrible his life was and how he wanted it to end. The recording ended with a gunshot. The police was about to call it a suicide until a detective pointed out a very important clue. What was it?

Director’s Reports

  •  President Geoff

    • The meeting on Thursday is back at the Hydro. Guest speaker will be Rinu Mathews Southern Cross Assumption Villa.

  • From Jennifer – World Peace Day

In these final weeks of my time with Leeton Rotary, I had the honour of representing our Club at two significant events.

On Thursday 17 September I attended the ROTARY PEACE DINNER in Cowra.

An evening of conversation, reflection and hope for a more peaceful world.

The Keynote speaker was a very eloquent Lynne Strong.

She is a writer, educator and civic leader who spoke on how communities treat cycles of conflict and build practical peace. She spent her morning with school children from Cowra; talking WITH them about how they can influence peace at school, home in their town and in the world. Her speech was inspiring.

On Saturday 20th September I attended the on-line ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PEACE ASSEMBLY 2026.  At the end they informed us there were 1261 participants from over 100 countries.

There were four eminent speakers, whose names now escape me, and a video presentation from RI President Olayinka H Babalola from the RC of Trans Amadi in Nigeria. He emphasised that by “creating lasting impact” we can help improve world peace.

One speaker from Australia suggested that Clubs could

  1. Think inwardly by building a peace project.
  2. Complete online peace learning through

Positive Peace Academy – short course

IEP Ambassador Program – 6 weeks

  1. External projects such as involvement finding suitable candidates for peace fellows, or inviting them to speak in our communities

(easier said than done in our environment)

REMEMBER PEACE BEGINS WITH YOU AND ME.

Woman’s Work

It’s a sunny morning in the Big Forest and the Bear family is just waking up. Baby Bear goes downstairs and sits in his small chair at the table. He looks into his small bowl. It is empty! "Who's been eating my porridge?" he squeaks. Father Bear arrives at the table and sits in his big chair. He looks into his big bowl. It is also empty! "Who's been eating my porridge?" he roars. Mother Bear sticks her head out the kitchen door and yells, "For crying out loud, how many times do we have to go through this? It was Mother Bear who got up first. It was Mother Bear who woke everybody else in the house up. It was Mother Bear who unloaded the dishwasher from last night and put everything away. It was Mother Bear who went out into the cold early morning air to fetch the newspaper. It was Mother Bear who set the table. It was Mother Bear who put the cat out, cleaned the litter box and filled the cat's water and food dish. And now you've decided to come down stairs and grace me with your presence, but listen good because I'm only going to say this one more time: I haven't made the damned porridge yet!!

A:  If the person shot himself and died, he wouldn’t have been able to stop the device from recording further.
