The advice from his father when he completed Dentistry was to go where he was needed. This was initially in Narrandera. Working conditions were not great so he accepted the offer of Bruce Robertson to join the Leeton Practice.
He moved to Leeton and had a small-holding - although he couldn't do too much on the farm due to the pressure of work. He also joined APEX at this time. It was a really active group. While in APEX they built the original play park in Graham Park.
On turning 40, he left APEX and joined Rotary in 1993. The club then had 70+ members. They were hands-on people and had just completed the Rotunda. He remembered the Club buying an old Land Rover for the Salvation Army, the fishing group and, later, the golfing group.
He worked with Bruce for 18 years before Bruce succumbed to cancer. It was hard work, long hours (8am to 6.30) weekdays and every second Saturday.
He divorced in 1989 and has now been with Ethel for 20 years.
David Middleton joined the Practice in 1995 and became a partner in 1999. Andrew retired from the Practice in 2009 and worked for the Government all over the place for a while. He didn’t really appreciate the bureaucracy but enjoyed front-line people. He retired fully in 2016.
He has enjoyed Rotary – particularly mixing with different people away from the narrow world of dentistry.

Guest - Marina Cook
Marina was asked to give us a brief presentation of her background (so she didn’t have to repeat the story 12 times over).
Marina hailed from Sydney where she was teaching. The advent of Covid made her think of moving to a region and she applied for an infants library position at Narrandera East (3 days per week). She combined this with 2 days at Gralee. She was then living in Narrandera.
Meanwhile her daughter, who was married to an American and living in regional California with their 3 children decided to move back to Australia.
The family are now living with Marina, and they have purchased a small land-holding on Lonnie Rd where they have experimented with goats (now sent to the Zoo) and sheep. Marina is now trying to make additions to the house to make things more livable. She is working part time at Gralee.
We hope you feel welcome in Leeton and at the Rotary club.

- Thanks to all for the BIG weekend. Saturday, Market Day was not so nice weather-wise, and the crowd was a bit thin but lots of Rotarians.
- The ham carnival went well and we were blessed with better weather.

- Provided a summary of the Ham carnival takings. A bit down on last year but generally very successful.

- Next week is an informal meeting at the Hydro
- The meeting on 9th January will be a meal at the Wade Hotel.
- The meeting on 16th will also be a meal somewhere – possibly the Bowling Club
- The meeting on 23rd will be to organize the Australia Day breakfast. The location to be confirmed – the Hydro is unavailable.

Sergeants Session – Bruer
Bruer distributed a Christmas themed quiz (provided below). The questions were tricky and the answers elusive. In the end it was close between Jennifer and Jonathon, but youth prevailed, and Jonathon was declared the Christmas Whiz.
It was a fun session and very topical for the season. Maybe there will be answers in next week’s bulletin.

Pontius Who?
At Sunday school, the younger children were drawing pictures illustrating Biblical stories. The teacher walked by and noticed one little boy was drawing an airplane! "Oh, what Bible story are you drawing?" she asked. "This is the Flight into Egypt," the little boy answered. "See, here is Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. And this," he said, pointing to the front of the plane, "is Pontius. He's the Pilot."
