Craig Watson President of Leeton Central Rotary Club was our guest speaker this week giving us a glimpse into his journey and career path to becoming the Director of CJ Design Services Pty (a project design, management and drafting service based in Leeton). 
 
 
CJ Design Services Pty Ltd offers clients a service which can assist with both building and mechanical projects.  Having been heavily involved with the rice milling industry since first commencing and then furthering experience in structural and civil engineering design and on-site supervision their service can cover all your project needs.   AutoCad Mechanical, Architectural Licensed products and Autodesk Inventor 3D capabilities are also all part of their services.
 
Craig Watson’s qualifications include:  Apprenticeship Directorate of NSW - Craftsman Certificate Mechanical and Structural Drafting, Leeton College of TAFE - Fitting and Machining Trade Certificate and Cereal Milling Certificate (Honours), Griffith College of TAFE - Building Foreman and Clerk of Works (Honours), Griffith College of TAFE Workplace Trainer and Assessor, Construction Induction Card, High Risk License EWP, Working at Heights.

2020 - Current
With the onset of Covid-19 and restricted travel a decision was made to work remotely for various clients.  This involved both existing and new customers now being the core for CJ Design Services.
 
Major Projects:
•         Albury Wodonga Health New Outpatients and Specialists Hub.
•         Wangaratta Community Learning Centre.
•         WRCC Proposed School Griffith NSW.  
•         Casella Family Brands - Morris Wines.  New cellar door.  
 
 
2018 - 2020 Casella Family Brands
Key Responsibilities: Liaise with business unit customer and complete Costing, Layout and Detail Drafting, Supervision, Safety Management, Contractor Inductions including compliance, Project management including tendering and ordering as required.
 
Major Projects:
Project DA and LGA, CFA approval. Project Co-ordination and Site Supervision and Management of Distillery Upgrade in Victoria Value $5+ Million
 
2012 - 2018 SunRice Engineering
Key Responsibilities - Liaise with business unit customer and complete Costing, Layout and Detail Drafting, Supervision, Safety Management, Contractor Inductions including compliance, site management including tendering and ordering as required.

  • New Leeton CopRice Bran Plant Value $12 Million
  • Demolition of a 1960's building on the Leeton Mill site for eradication of rodent infestation.
  • Leeton Whitener Upgrade new building and mechanical install and fit out Value $7.8 Million.
  • Leeton Mill Fire Services non­conformance project. Value $500,000
  • 4000T Storage Facility Value at Brandon QLD $3.4 Million
  • Project Drafting, Detailing, Management and Site Supervision of various smaller individual projects at Brandon QLD.
  • SPP Upgrade of extrusion and packing Value $5.2 million.
  • Project Site Supervision of Packing line Robot's installation $1.1 Million
 
 
2001 - 2012 Hughes Trueman/Mott MacDonald
Utilised as Senior Structural Designer for Hughes Trueman/Mott MacDonald Structural Engineers. Areas of involvement included all documentation of residential, commercial, industrial, mechanical and civil works.
 
Major projects had included:
•         Project management and supervision of new GALA building including application for funding.
•         RFS Griffith project preliminary design, planning and engineering design.
•         Canberra Centre Consolidation - staged refurbishment, renovation and extension of occupied shopping centre. Value $28m.
•         Calvary Hospital redevelopment, Bruce - staged refurbishment, renovation and extension of occupied hospital. Value $24m.
•         Woden Plaza Mini Major- single storey addition to existing plaza. Value $3.5m.
•         Australian National University, Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies - composite construction two storey building. Value $2.Sm.
•         Commonwealth Place - monument for the centenary of federation. Value $10m.
 
Kendall and Sellick Pty. Ltd.
Manager / Assistant Engineer responsible for all marketing, management, design, and delivery of projects for the Griffith NSW office.
 
Major projects had included:
•         Department of CALM - 52) block subdivision. Value of works $1.lm.
•         Griffith City Council - 82 residential block subdivision. Value $1m.
•         Various mechanical applications
•         Numerous residential footings and concrete slab designs.
•         Griffin Plaza - Engineering supervision of new shopping plaza of 9600m building area,
•         Griffith City Council Pool Complex - Engineering supervision of new Griffith City Aquatic Centre

Rotary Hat Day
 
Hat Day is an initiative of Australian Rotary Health, one of Australia’s largest funding bodies of mental illness research.  Established in 1981, Australian Rotary Health has contributed more than $33 million towards health research projects in areas such as Alzheimer’s, arthritis, diabetes, cancer, multiple sclerosis, heart disease and spinal injury.
 
Hat Day is a way to increase that funding for this worthwhile and increasingly important health issue in our community.  I am happy to say all Rotarians present at this week’s dinner wore a hat of one description or another, even the bulletin writer/editor who took the photo was represented in the photo by their hat, somebody had to take the photo.

Sergeant Dan’s comments on commencement most of the fines I have are for people who aren’t even here this week.  This we celebrated Rotary Hat Day and were asked to wear a hat in support of mental health.  Sergeant Dan took the opportunity to fine everyone who didn’t bring a hat, he then went on to fine everyone who did, and to top it off he then fined Geoff who provided hats for those who forget (for a contribution to the fine jar, I mean fine hat!).  Either way everyone paid up at least once with all funds raised going towards a great cause, mental health.

I notices but was not quite sure what was going on with the lopsided and upside down name badges, however I did not notice until it was pointed out to me that one of the badges didn’t even belong to the person wearing it.  Thought I was a bit more observant than that.
