Buster Ryan Scholarship Recipients

Reece Caburong is a 24y.o. vet nurse at the Leeton Veterinary Hospital. She is from the Philippines and came to Australia with her family in 2022. She already had an Arts degree from the Philippines and aspired to be a news reporter (preferably news anchor on Television) This didn’t seem to be possible, and she found it challenging at first. She got a job at the Vet. Clinic and found it challenging at first.  She embarked on a TAFE course and is now fully qualified.  She applied for the Buster Ryan scholarship in her final year and was one of the successful applicants. He is grateful for the scholarship and used it to buy an iPad to help with her work and a cardiology stethoscope.  She is passionate about safe work practices and understands their importance.

Will Nardi is a 3rd year Electrical Apprentice. He did work experience as a builder but responded to his father’s suggestion to try Electrics.  He secured an electrical apprentice job with Glen Heath and worked on the Roxy. This job ran out and he now works with GS & BD Electrics in Griffith.  Will is also grateful for the scholarship and has used it to buy some important tools of his trade.

In thanking Reece and Will, Alan noted that he sorted through the many applications during the selection process and said that two of the applications stood out – those of Reece and Will.

    • Last Tuesday evening Jennifer participated in an International Mega-Meeting “Peace begins at home”.  There were 1500+ participants and 80 countries represented.

    • There is a Seniors Expo on Thursday 5 March 10.00am to 1.00 pm at the Uniting Church Hall. It is hosted by the Leeton Library. More information from your search engine – Seniors Expo Leeton.

    • RYDA is on March 10/11/12. Contact is David Lang.  He will be seeking help with the barbecues.

    • Don’t forget the Council Breakfast Barbecue at Chelmsford Place Friday 13th March. 7.00 am.

    • Tuesday 24 March 6.30 for 7pm. RAWCS National CEO Mahir Momand Jazza North, The Rules Club Fernleigh Rd Wagga Wagga. Contact is Deidre Tome.

    • Riverina Field Days at Whitton Malt House March 27 and 28. Contact is David Haines (RC Narrandera). Help will be needed for the gates.

    • Brian attended a CANVA workshop run by Nicholas. CANVA is a graphic design program.

Len presented a trophy to Barry for his work on the Electrics at Cypress St. It was for Leeton’s best electrician for work above and beyond the call of duty.

Sergeant Laurie

The Sergeant session was a quiz about land area of countries of the world.  It was won by Aaron who was closest to the 20th biggest country (he guessed South Africa).

This table is based on total area and not land area – the order changes a little based on land area. The largest European country after Russia is France coming in at 49.

I came across this definition of army ranks the other day. 

GENERAL-- Leaps tall buildings with a single bound, More powerful than a Steam engine, Faster than a speeding bullet, Gives policy to God!

COLONEL-- Leaps short buildings with a single bound, More powerful than a shunting engine, Is just as fast as a speeding bullet, Walks on water (If the sea is calm), Talks with God!

LIEUTENANT COLONEL-- Leaps short buildings with a running start in favourable winds, Is almost as powerful as a speeding bullet, Walks on water in indoor swimming pools, Talks with God if special request is approved.

MAJOR-- Barely clears a Nissen hut, Loses tug-of-war with a steam engine, Can fire a speeding bullet & swims well, Is occasionally addressed by God.

CAPTAIN--Makes high marks when trying to leap tall buildings, Is run over by trains, Can sometimes handle a gun without inflicting self injury, Dog paddles, Talks to animals.

LIEUTENANT-- Runs into tall buildings, Recognises trains 2 out of 3 times, Is not issued with ammunition, Can stay afloat if properly instructed in the use of a lifejacket, Talks to walls.

2nd LIEUTENANT-- Falls over doorsteps while trying to enter buildings, Says "Look at Choo Choo" Is NEVER issued with a gun or ammunition, Plays in mud puddles, Mumbles to himself.

SERGEANT MAJOR--  Lifts tall buildings & walks under them, Kicks steam engines off the track, Catches speeding bullets in his teeth & eats them, Freezes water with a single glance.... HE IS GOD!
