We have had a busy week in Leeton, with the state on fire all around us, and our having only suffered some unseasonal rain and high winds.
I regularly think about how lucky we are to live where we do.
On Saturday, the Leeton Town Band, led by the irrepressible Ruth Tait, collaborated with the wonderful and cheeky Golden Kangaroos Hornsby Band at the Roxy Theatre in the Spring in to Summer concert.
On Sunday, Leeton hosted a new event co-founded by our own Hearth Mother and Provider of Sustenance, Matt Gatt - the Riverina Organic Expo.
I was there representing TAFE NSW - here you can see Rob Fenton, our permaculture teacher from TAFE in Thurgoona, talking to a very welcome visitor.
The organic lamb was a hit with the public, and Rob and I had the chance to talk with several small scale farmers about their plans to go organic and what that would entail.
Really a very social and productive day. The event overall drew a fair sized custom and it looks like it will be on again next year.
Shout out to Dan for helping me get a Rotary marquee out of storage and over to the Tourist Info Centre!

This Thursday night we welcome Brenton Langridge as our Guest Speaker at our MIA Club dinner meeting.
Brenton has a long history with Rotary as a Cadet and with RYLA, and will be speaking to us about his recent trek through the Karakoram Valley in Pakistan, where he climbed a glacier. Please consider this a vertigo warning for those among us who are used to the flat lands.
We are still confirming our guest for the following week, 21st of November, but Bass is on the case! 
Two weeks from now on the 28th November, my good friend Alex Marley will be visiting Leeton from her home town of Cootamundra. Alex is a linguistic researcher who has spent years in remote communities documenting the language and customs of isolated first peoples in PNG and the Northern Territory. Alex will be speaking to us about the challenges faced both day-to-day and in terms of the loss of language and cultural traditions by some of our most vulnerable tribes.
Our Club Christmas Party is looking to be held at Riverdesta Restaurant in Darlington Point, however we are still sorting out the details.
