A Relaxed Evening

Greg introduced the theme for the evening, noting that the scheduled guest speaker for this meeting was postponed until October due to the small number of members at the meeting.

First item was the trailer for ‘The Travellers’. As outlined below, however, it has been decided that we cannot stage this movie and have had to cancel the idea.

September is Rotary's Education and Literacy Month.  We viewed some information from other Rotary districts and this stimulated a great discussion – particularly around ‘it’s never too late to learn’.

Director’s Reports

  •  PP Carmel

    • World Polio Day – 24 October.

    • After much discussion, it has been decided by the Board that we will not be able to organize the screening of ‘The Travellers’ as a fundraiser for Polio Plus. The amount of work involved would not justify the potential return.

  • Len

    • Attended the Year 12 presentation at LHS on 26th September to present the Rotary Citizenship Award.  It was awarded to a girl – Mackenzie Lee.

Sergeant Aaron

Aaron did a great job as Sergeant as this was his first time and he wasn’t aware it was his turn – (he hadn’t read the Bulletin, tut-tut.)

The raffle was won by Andrew.

Luck of the Irish

Here I was, sitting reading and I looked over at my daughter.

She was studying something then closing her eyes and slightly mouthing words.

I asked what she was doing.

She told me she was learning her lines for the Drama group. They're doing an Ulster version of 'Frozen', called 'Foundered'

She also tells me that as well as a few parts she's part of the singing chorus.

I says to her, 'I suppose you'll be singing that hit song from it? Ah, what’s it called? The Snowman?'

I couldn't remember the name and guessed at a few, all wrong according to daughter.

Eventually daughter says to me 'Let it go, dad, let it go'

''Ach, no, I can't'' says I ''This will bug me till I remember the name''
