WL Seaton Secondary Rotary Interact Club

Interact is a club for young people ages 12-18 who want to join together to tackle the issues in their community that they care most about. Through Interact, you can:
  • Carry out hands-on service projects
  • Make international connections
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Have fun!
HOW DOES AN INTERACT CLUB CREATE POSITIVE CHANGE?
Every Interact club carries out two service projects a year: one that helps your school or community and one that promotes international understanding.

The Rotary Club of Kalamalka has sponsored an “Interact” club at WL Seaton Secondary in Vernon, BC since 2006.

Like Kal Rotary, the  Seaton club contributes to international and local projects.  Most recently, through Partners in the Horn of Africa, the Seaton club has taken on a 4 year commitment ($1800 annually) to feed 10 young women in Ethiopia while living at “Jimma Scholarship House”.  Jimma itself, is sponsored by the Kal club.

Women’s advanced education is critical to Ethiopia’s development.  The students are academically outstanding, with visions and dreams for their own professional future: becoming a teacher, a scientist, or a doctor.  Being from rural areas though, these 10 young women would otherwise not be able to pursue a high school education.

The Seaton club’s past international projects include a water well for Partners, War Child Canada, Shelter Box (disaster relief), and Doctors Without Borders.  Locally, the students are involved in providing Christmas hampers to local families through donations by local merchants, community gardens, the YAA Festival (Youth Achievement & Appreciation) and running their school’s recycling program.

There is nothing fancy about it, but when it comes to raising money for their projects, the Seaton club is a fine tuned machine!  The club’s fundraising basics include the recycling program, an annual “Music Marathon”, selling fair trade coffee, pizza and bake sales, Penny Wars, and running the coat check at Kal Rotary’s Dream Auction.

It is with pride and pleasure that The Rotary Club of Kalamalka is the sponsor club for the WL Seaton Rotary Interact Club.
