- Meeting Tuesday, Dec 5th, at noon in the Road Runner Room at Blue Skies West. The presentation is called "The Plight of the Honeybee". More info follows a few other announcements.
- All Club members are welcome at the Saturday, Dec 9th luncheon with District Governor Monica Gutierrez. This is a group gathering with three other clubs (Alamo Ranch, Mission Trail, SA South) to be better acquainted with our Governor and fellow Rotarians. Details are in the attached flyer. Don Pedro’s restaurant, 1526 S.W. Military, order from the menu. I need a headcount on Tuesday. So far it is me, Dwayne, and Jim. (Bring an unwrapped toy for a non-profit charity donation).
- Christmas gifts for Allen Elementary families will be presented on Dec 12th at 8:30 am at the school. Dwayne has all the families’ gifts spoken for and could use more funds for the gift cards being presented to each family unit—and will be accepting your contributions at our Tuesday Rotary meeting.
- Kudos to the team gathered this week for “Rotary Basics for New Members”! Half the club was there and imparted a lion’s share of Rotary wisdom on Bob Burmeister, Paula Haley, and Joel Lichenstein. In that same spirit of Rotary knowledge, the District-wide offering on Saturday, January 15th, called Rotary Leadership Institute is open for registration. The classes will be at a church off IH-10W in Fair Oaks and the club will reimburse your $50 registration.
- Contributions to The Rotary Foundation generate an immediate email acknowledgment, which is why some may be wondering about the appreciative note for their $15 contribution to End Polio. The back story is that our World Polio Day fundraiser collected a little over $400 cash from undesignated donors and, instead of forwarding it as a club cash contribution we spread the wealth so every member was recorded as contributing.

Local beekeeper Johnny D has been raising, rescuing, and relocating millions of bees for over 8 years in and around the San Antonio area. In addition to producing raw, kosher, unfiltered all-natural honey; he teaches beekeeping classes and has over a dozen apprentices. Johnny D’s Bees established a 501c3 nonprofit, Bees in the Heart of Texas, in 2022 to offer free educational presentations to audiences from the elementary to university level. The presentation covers the importance of honeybees as pollinators and producers of honey, as well as hive life.
