San Antonio West Club member Dr. Gordon Cox presented his "classification" talk to a full house on July 16th, 2024.
One of our newest "Cox" Club members, Dr. Gordon Cox, wove a fascinating life story, from being born premature to nearly failing 7th grade to excelling in High School honors and Undergraduate and Graduate programs.
Gordon's professional career took him worldwide, where he managed diverse international teams (including Moscow) and encountered polar bears in the Arctic.
Gordon's technical specialty is Arctic engineering.
He has been involved in Arctic research and operations for over forty years.

Club announcements included:
- Newly installed District Governor Kristen Salazar will visit our Club on Tuesday, August 20th.
- July is Rotary Maternal and Child Health Month.
- Rotary Multi-District Training Institute is scheduled for August 2 - 4th in Pflugerville. Any Club officers interested in attending should contact Club President Dwayne Hopkins.
- Rotary Leadership Institute (Phase I, II, and III) is scheduled for Saturday, September 21st.
- Rotary World Polio Day is October 24th. Our club will set up a donation station at Blue Skies of Texas on that date.
- Consider signing up for "Rotary Direct" to donate regularly to the Rotary International Foundation. If you need instructions, contact Foundation Chair John Paul Sullivan.
- Thinking long-term, the Rotary International Convention will be held in Calgary, Canada, from June 21 to 25, 2025. Now is the time to plan for a once-in-a-lifetime Rotary experience.
Other activities that highlighted the Club meeting:
Past President Jerry Hardy won the "Alzheimer's Research Project" raffle ticket and was also the lucky winner of drawing the Queen of Spades from the card deck, winning the split the pot of $1,616.
However, he donated his winnings right back to the Project fund.
The balance of the Alzheimer's Research Project fund now stands at $3,515.00.
Finally, our Club consistently donates funds to the Center for Refugee Services to help fill backpacks for returning school children.
Project Chair Dan Van Syoc emailed most Club members with instructions on donating or volunteering to help fill backpacks.
