The Rotary Club of San Antonio West handed out checks for school needs and a staff appreciation luncheon to the Jerry D. Allen Elementary School.
On Friday, May 3rd, 2024, four members of Rotary Club 1907 surprised Jerry D. Allen Elementary School by delivering checks worth $1,171.46. One check was $450.00 for a staff appreciation luncheon. A second check was for equipment, including headphones worth $346.30 and library books worth $375.16.
Club members included Foundation Chair John Paul Sullivan, President Jerry Hardy, PDG Dwayne Hopkins, and Treasurer John Wendt.
Allen school staff included Christina Reyes, Associate Principal; Sara Ramirez, Principal; and Elisena Diaz, Family and Community Liaison.

The Rotary Club of San Antonio West (RCSAW) has a long tradition of initiatives at Jerry D. Allen Elementary School, including:
- Headset Donation Program: RCSAW purchases new headsets for all third-grade students yearly.
- Holiday Gift Drive: RCSAW organizes a gift-giving initiative during Christmas to support needy families (clothing, gifts, and gift cards).
- Faculty and Staff Recognition: RCSAW shows its appreciation to school faculty and staff by providing breakfast treats, gift cards, and help in the classroom.
- Book Contributions: In recognition of guest speakers at club meetings, RCSAW purchases books signed by the speaker and donates them to the school’s library.
- Reading Program Support: RCSAW previously had a tradition of volunteer-led reading sessions to support the reading program (suspended due to COVID).
- School Supply Fundraiser: In collaboration with the Center for Refugee Services, the RCSAW has raised funds and collected donations for school supplies, distributing them with more than 1,000 backpacks to students from pre-K to 12th grade.
Jerry D. Allen Elementary School is part of the Northside Independent School District and is led by Principal Sara Ramirez and Associate Principal Christina B. Reyes.
The school’s mission statement emphasizes providing students with the foundational skills (ROOTS) and the creative and critical thinking abilities (WINGS) necessary for success.
