Visiting Rotarians: I'm sorry! I'm new to this and I forgot to confirm spellings, club membership and-in the case of our third visiting Rotarian-the name (!) of our visiting Rotarians. George Tsukumis from Vancouver, Shannon Terrell from Bellingham Bay (I believe) and a third unnamed visitor.
Announcements:
Bucks for Banos has unfortunately been cancelled due to lack of participation. If you already made payment, your money will be refunded. If you contributed wine to the Past President's Wine Basket, your wine MIGHT be refunded (says President Marlene with a smile). The Honduran woman who was to speak at the brunch is still coming and there may be an opportunity to hear from her. The Banos project is still happening. Just the brunch is cancelled.
The Blood Drive, in conjunction with Graham's NZ Club, is still in the works. In order to give blood during the blood drive, it is recommended you do NOT give blood between now and then.
Tim Carpenter has been granted a leave of absence due to his father's ill health. We send our best wishes to Tim and his family.
WCNR received thank you notes from FFA and 4H.
Jim Blaney is charged with getting us singing! The Canadian and US National Anthems will be sung, by members of our club, for our visiting District Governor.
Tim V. is coordinating a garage sale on October 9 at 9 am. Tim provides the place. You bring your merchandise, price your merchandise, sell your merchandise, and take away whatever didn't sell (which at that point can no longer be called merchandise!). Proceeds will help with our matching funds for Mel's donation.
Happy Bucks:
Pete R. was happy for an uneventful week on the boat (meaning nothing broke down). Laurie was happy for Ichiro's recent achievement. George was unhappy about a doubly long commute to Bellingham. Wyn was sad about the Huskies loss. Pete and Sharon had "scooter" bucks (and good excuses). Maureen was thrilled about her new nephew, who she's tempted to now tell you all about. She realizes this would be taking advantage of the office of Northwind reporter. Not to mention he's only three weeks old and doesn't do much. But MAN.is he cute! Lex was just happy. Jim was happy for two golf tourneys. Marlene was happy for her Grandson's first steps.
Fine Master:
Scott Wallace filled in as Fine Master with 30 seconds notice. (Thank you, Scott.)
The banners: Stan's banners depicted the "aura of autumn." They depicted colors and images that put Stan in an autumnal frame of mind.
Greg was fined for the noisemaker (toy) he brought with him. Fines were levied on anyone wearing a tie. Cell phone use or texting while driving. Brian $5 (?). Gary S. for not getting fined by Scott W recently. Lummi Island dwellers.
Program:
Randy Ray presented his thoughts on Health Care Reform and the new legislation. Ray is the founder and CEO LyfeSystems Inc., parent company to LyfeBank. LyfeBank provides new options for businesses to contribute to workers' health insurance and health related expenses.
