MEETING TO ORDER:  President Chuck Tull called the meeting to order at 12:30 and Winton Smith gave the invocation.

 

VISITING ROTARIANS:

Brian Finnegan introduced Fred Holmes, Ray George brought Karli and Scott Wallace was accompanied by his lovely wife Marge.

 

BIRTHDAYS:

FOUNDATION MINUTE: 

  • Tim Villhauer described the 3 types of foundation service awards.

 

ACCOUNCEMENTS:

  • Dan reported on last Saturday's Blaine litter pickup outing:  14 people participated, 42 of trash were collected.
  • Scott Wallace noted that the litter pick-up counts as a make-up
  • Next week we are hosting Team Brazil who will also speak at our 5/13 meeting. All members are invited to dinner at Nancy and Rick Tieman's at 530pm 5/12.  Please email Nancy ntieman@peacehalth.org for directions or to donate salmon for our dinner.
  • Youth Service Awards  5/20.  Thanks to all the table hosts.  We are one bank short.  Please contact Leah if you think you can help procure the last one.  
  • Club in Club dinner 5/22 at 5:00 p.m. at the Dakota Creek Christian Center (Beacon Ball Room). Tim V is contact for participation.  Karli will send out sign up list. 
  • Spouses are invited to the Friday evening meeting on June 25.

 

HAPPY BUCKS:

Chuck Tull was happy for a successful litter pick-up as was Dan Parsons and Ken Richardson.

Greg Iwasaki was happy that his son won an award from Harvard for a water quality project

Julie Johansen had fun at a Kentucky Derby party

Bill Grace was happy about the litter clean up and the sunshine

Larry Raney had fun at litter clean up

Jeanne McGee was very happy she was finally getting over pneumonia

Ray George was happy he found 2 cans of beer in litter pickup that he could donate to the club in a club event.

 

FINEMASTER:  This week's Finemaster was Ken Richardson

Scott Wallace paid because he had no happy bucks for his retirement party.

Everyone paid a buck because of low attendance

Anyone who signed the Club in Club Sign-up sheet with X had to pay

And Tyler was fined because his store has a salad bar happy hour 2:00-4:00 and who eats salad at those hours??

 

BANNERS:  Cinco de Mayo-defeat of Napoleon III.

 

PROGRAM:   Cynthia Martell from the Alzheimer Society spoke to the group about programs and fund raising.  She indicated that when local fund raising is done, the majority of funds stay in community.  She discussed the many different programs that are found in Whatcom County.  On May 15 there is a fund-raising event scheduled for 9:00 a.m. at the Fairhaven Village Green that will include a 5K walk/run event.  Joselyn Winslow shared information about Project Lifesaver--electronic technology to locate missing persons.  Alzheimer Society performs the intake process with the family purchasing the device (approx. $300). The Whatcom County Sheriff's Department has trained personnel and euqipment to locate missing persons using this technology.
