Call to Order: President Sharon called the meeting to order and led us in the flag salute.
Invocation: The Rev. Deb Wiggs provided the invocation.
Visiting Rotarians: Bill Gorman (B’ham Bay) and Nancy Jordan (B’ham club) Welcome!
Guests: None
Returning Rotarians: Deb Wiggs returning from the World Headquarters in Idaho.
Anniversaries: Happy Anniversary (2007) to Laurie, who was off celebrating.
Announcements: Next week there is no lunch meeting, but will be a picnic at Hovander Park. Party starts at 5:30 and bring friends, family, and side dishes, etc. Sharon gives up the reins to Dale, so be there or miss great fun! A round of applause for Jake who made a short visit to say he would not be able to stay. Board meeting on June 22, 2016 at Zervas at 4:00. Lots to talk about! (A short board meeting was held following lunch…look for Sharon’s email.) We need to focus on getting more members and everyone will be held responsible for this. Duck ticket sales will begin Saturday. See Ken or Tim or Pati for other times to group sell.
Happy Bucks: Bill started with sad bucks for the senseless murders in Orlando and also for a funeral of friend from the car club. Deb shared a prologue to her father’s story. Seems he was President of Mt. Vernon in 1959 and they designed a “traveling t-shirt” which has been passed back and forth between members, and sadly, her dad is the last man living, so he will take it back to the club on July 12th to have it stored in their archives. Deb will keep us up to date on this! Pati had happy bucks for Star Park and her workout with the wheelbarrow. Tim also had happy bucks for Star Park and the great effort by all in attendance. They took guest to the Park the following day and it was filled with kids, as it should be! Stan had happy bucks for the artists in Marlene’s family and Marlene had happy bucks for Jakie’s recovery with her wrist. (The artist is Marlene’s 4-year-old granddaughter, Maddie. Jakie is a rock star in Maddie’s home and any injury to Jakie, is an injury to Maddie. When hearing about Jakie’s fall, Maddie flew into the crayons and paints to make Jakie a get-well card.) Nancy had happy bucks for her favorite time of year and to so conveniently, be able to make-ups with us.
Finemaster: Jim Blaney was the man of the hour and he began by fining people $1 for Flag day, (14th.) If you were a member of the service, it cost you a buck. We were tested on our flag etiquette and fined if we failed. If you were under 94 years of age, it cost you. Marlene was fined $1 for not telling Jim he was finemaster. If you did not have 100% attendance, it cost you. Somehow we were fined because Jim’s daughter turned 71. Ken was fined for fineing Jim last week and Marlene threw in a fine for Ken for not fining Deb last week.
Banners: Represented Flag Day. Thank you, Stan!
Program: Eric Richey, Whatcom County Prosecutor shared many a story about what prosecutors do. He was riveting, explaining how several cases in the county had been solved and he also shed new light on the mass incarceration problem in our country. Let’s have him back for more crime reports…it was a great program!
Drawing: Janella (Jakie) donated a popcorn popper and supplies to represent, “Pop” (Father’s Day!) Ken won this, but for some reason does not eat popcorn, so Sharon got it. Bill won his own donated candle, so returned that, as well. Bill did not get the Ace, so the pot is closing in on $1,000 (give or take!)
