MEETING TO ORDER:
President Marlene called the meeting to order at 12:30:32pm and led us in the pledge of allegiance. The “always ready to cover for those scheduled, but not in attendance”, Gary T. provided the invocation. Brian Finnegan did his best to lead us in the recitation of the Four-Way Test.
VISITING ROTARIANS:
There were no visiting Rotarians today.
GUESTS:
None.
RETURNING ROTARIANS:
Rocky returned from 3 weeks in California; had to come back to Bellingham to enjoy some sun.
BIRTHDAYS:
Laurie Lloyd – 6/29; happy early birthday!
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
President Marlene thanked Maureen, Dan and Chuck for their service as board members; last night was their last board meeting.
President Marlene didn’t hesitate to fill a vacant board position with the nomination of Rocky. Bill G. made a motion to accept Rocky, which was quickly seconded and the membership voted unanimously to elect Rocky before he knew what was going on.
There will NOT be a meeting on July 7, because it is close to July 4 (make sense?). Mark your calendars.
Saturday June 11 members in the Club met to do highway trash pickup (I know what you’re thinking, but when I say “highway trash”, I’m actually not referring to Randy Carr and Brian Finnegan). The members who participated had a great time. Bill Grace calculated the average age of those that showed up; it was 61. Around 11:00am they headed to Mel’s house and surprised him by singing happy birthday.
President Marlene read a number of thank-you notes provided by students at Sumas Elementary.
Tim V. announced that if you have 100% attendance this past year to please contact him so you can be recognized.
President Marlene noted that Tim C. is not here (spattered applause…?), so she reminded the club about Golfun.
Chuck T. wants the members to sign up for the June 30 Installation Dinner. A high-tech sign-up sheet (yellow notepad and generic pen) is being circulated. Please indicate whether you will be attending, how many in your party and whether you want salmon or steak. It will be an evening meeting held at Northwood Hall, so we will not be having an afternoon meeting that day. Mark it on your calendars.
Randy C. is having an impromptu party at his house tonight starting at 6:00pm. Everyone is invited.
HAPPY BUCKS:
President Marlene started off the happy bucks by indicating she was happy to have presided over her last official board meeting last night. She thanked the board members and the club for a great year. Bill G. – thanks to all board members; Ken R. - $20; $10 of those because he wasn’t in Vancouver last night and the remaining $10 was for fines he was sure to receive; Gary T. - $100 to Foundation, $41 for anniversary and $64 for birthday (he rounded down); Max L. – sad dollars, his sister past away last Saturday after fighting pneumonia for 6 weeks (thoughts are with you and your family, Max); Rocky - $10, babysitting youngest grandchild last 3 weeks and finally done; Chuck T. – happy not in Vancouver last night; Maureen – thanks to President Marlene (or was Marlene thanking Maureen…we can never get those names straight); Pete – went fishing with son for 3 days; Stan – son-in-law thought he had heart attack but it was clogged artery, after a stent placed therein, doing better. Also, youngest grandson graduating from HS and got to meet youngest great, great grandson; Paul C. – had a parachute malfunction and had to deploy his reserve chute, so happy to be here, but can’t find his main chute…oh, and it’s his 24th anniversary Monday; Rome S. – Dad is celebrating his 70th father’s day Sunday; Ray – happy Rollo going to the Carrs instead of spending anniversary with wife (Rollo quickly corrected that misunderstanding); Tim V. – great Rotary year, missing Installation Dinner for the first time; Finnegan - $5 scooter bucks.
FINES:
Ken Richardson, chair of the elite Finemaster committee, announced a new procedure in accepting new members to the committee; you need to audition. Today’s guinea pig is Norm Vigre.
Norm started by fining Brian and Randy $2 each for last Friday/Saturday. He then came up with a very clever fine against Ray G. - $2 if he doesn’t say another word, but if he does, $5. Ray initially paid $2, but after 3 minutes couldn’t help himself and paid the remaining $3. Gary T. – today’s program is about his time in New Orleans but there is a lack of beaded necklaces/theme; Chuck T. – riding in the back of Parson’s pickup truck on the highway and not being able to advise Norm of some legal action he could take against Dan for doing that; Gary T. – another fine, this time for rounding down in his happy buck calculation; Rocky – fined for what he is probably doing to the youngsters of today by babysitting them; if you read a Sarah Palin email in the last week, $1; If haven’t enjoyed this weather, $2 - $1 if you have; if you didn’t attend a graduation this year (preschool, middle school, high school, college, etc.), $1; if you have put money in the GET fund, $1; $2 if you haven’t; If you are comfortable hosting people in your pajamas, $1; if you are still in your pajamas at 11:00am, $2; if your lawn is overgrown, $1.

PROGRAM:
Gary T. was going to provide the program today. After meddling around with the laptop and projector for 10 minutes in order to do the presentation, and not being able to get it to work, the program was postponed another week and the meeting adjourned.
DRAWING:
President Marlene had her ticket drawn; however, she did not draw the ace of spades.
