Announcements. Rick Staeb: Last chance to purchase ¼ or ½ beef. Tim C: Dick D. would like us to know he’s all right, though he did spend some time in the hospital and he will miss the next couple of meetings. Sharon: Zervas Group is celebrating 50 years in business on Friday, 8/19. Rotarians are invited. Norm: Watch your email inbox for a survey regarding ways in which you’d like to contribute your skills to Rotary. Gary: Committees should begin meeting. There will be a BOD meeting on Tuesday at 4pm at Metcalf Hodges. Gary: Rotary 50/50 is sponsoring a hike to Padilla Bay in Skagit County.
Happy Bucks. Tim C was happy to have completed our micro lending project in Honduras. Through matching funds generously donated by Mel, our Club and the Rotary Foundation, our total contribution grew to $175,000. Julie was happy for Tim’s work, especially given the mountain of emails involved in completing the project. Bill was proud and happy about our micro lending project. George contributed $1,000 to Whatcom County North Rotary! He recently heard Vancouver was named the “Greenest City on the Planet,” and felt Bellingham was fortunate to be so nearby. True, and fortunate to have George in our club! Tim V. was happy for Mel’s and Tim’s contributions to microlending project. Chuck was happy for George and his donation. Dale was happy for his fun houseboating trip. Maureen was happy to see Larry R, Winton, happy about microlending and happy to have George in our club. Rick was happy for microlending, George and his contribution, and for having his wife, Deb home from Michigan. Greg had warning bucks, as son Carter is learning to drive. Jeannie had reminder bucks—carry important phone numbers somewhere other than in your cell phone. Ray was happy for a vacation to Yellowstone during which calamity struck their vehicle. Also happy to see Larry and Winton. Sharon was happy for Tim’s work on microlending. Gary was happy for George and his donation, and happy for his son Jason who completed a 454-mile bike ride on his skateboard! Tim V. was happy Gary’s son must have skateboarded by his mom’s house, located along the course.
Finemaster Norm. Fined George (but waved the fee) for the reduced number of Canadians we might be seeing at border crossings. Nick was not fined because he attended WSU. Derek was fined for attending Western which is not, of course, WSU. Marlene being absent, Maureen was fined because Norm’s employee had to leave early to attend a course taught by Marlene. Greg was fined for something I missed (apologies). Melanie was fined for being the only non-glasses-wearing person at her table. Ray for his exhaust problems. Tyler for not wearing a boldly-branded Haggen shirt. Dale for comments about his in-laws, related to his houseboating trip. Gary and Tim were fined for being the only ones not wearing Aloha gear at their table. Jeannie was fined for being the last to arrive. Tim C was not fined (due to his good service) for wordy emails during the micro lending projects. Other attorneys (Greg and Chuck in this case) were fined in his stead. Anyone who hadn’t attended an outdoor movie or concert was fined. NOTE: Leadership Whatcom is coming up. Check it out. Anyone who’s converted to TBills recently was fined.
Banners. Another excellent set from Stan! Banners were from clubs whose names are non-Indo European in origin.
Our speaker was Byron Mannery from Brigid Collins. He shared with us about the organization’s work to prevent child abuse by supporting families to become healthy and well-functioning.
