MEETING TO ORDER:  President Tim Villhauer called the meeting to order at 12:30.  Pete Kremen gave a fine invocation.

 

VISITING ROTARIANS: District Governor Larry Stinson, George Tsakumis from Vancouver and Fred Sexton from the Bellingham Club.

 

SPECIAL DIGNITARIES:   Assistant District Governor Larry Pollett and Past District Governor Mel Hollinger.

 

GUESTS:  Stan Brunner's wife Margaret, Jim McKellar's wife Nona, Ken Richardson's wife Susan, Dan Baker's wife Katie, Tim Villhauer's wife Pati, and his assistant Karen Lawson.  

 

BIRTHDAYS:   Phil Bratt - he must be out celebrating somewhere.

 

ANNOUNCMENTS:       

1.  Leadership Institute will be held September 20th in Arlington. 

2.  Tim Carpenter is all done registering people for Golfun and our club has contributed $1,000 which will go to support RI projects.   

3.  Bay 2 Bay - we still need to sign up more riders.  The accommodations at the camp look great.  Dan Parsons asked if Rotarians could sponsor a rider if they can't go themselves, so a list was sent around to get names of people who would sponsor.  Ray was out at SilverLake and found out the horse camp has very nice facilities for camping only about 300 feet from the scout camp so he reserved a spot and encouraged others to do the same. 

4.  There will be a board meeting at 7:30 on Thursday Aug. 7, followed by a Foundation Board Meeting.   Zervas Group Architect's Office, 209 Prospect St.

 

SPECIAL PRESENTATION - PERFECT ATTENDANCE PINS: We had the special honor of the District Governor presenting the pins in person.  The following members were awarded pins for 100% attendance:

 

Dan Baker 2 years, Marlene Sexton 3 years, Tony Cubellis 6 years, Tim Villhauer 7 years, Ken Richardson 9 years, Bill Grace 21 years, Scott Piper 23 years, Gary Snyder 24 years, Jim McKellar 27 years, Jim Bliss 31 years, Stan Brunner 33 years, Dick Donahue 33 years and Mel Hollinger 36 years.

 

HAPPY BUCKS :  Many members were especially happy to share this meeting with our District Governor.  In addition, Tim Villhauer was happy for 7 days in Italy.  Bill Grace for the roster being ready next week.  Tim Carpenter for staying 4 days in a motel while something smelly happened in his house, but forgetting to bring a suit for this important event.  He also gave some pre-emptive happy bucks to save Pete from being fined about the difficult decision he recently had to make about taxation.  Rome Sarwas was happy about completing (yes?) a cedar strip kayak from a mail-order kit.  Dan Baker happy that his brother had a very successful heart surgery.  Randy Carr will be on vacation next week, and also had a very nice dinner courtesy of the Thulin's auction donation.  Maureen was happy after seeing a truckload of "stuff" that we are not doing a garage sale this year.  She was also happy to note that Mel had been a Rotarian longer than she has been alive.  Mel Hollinger was happy to be sitting with the DG and the ADG at the same table.  Eric Nelson was happy for a trip to visit family, including a grandmother who is turning 90.  Marlene Sexton was happy about Larry Pollett being the ADG.  Scott Wallace for two weeks of vacation.   Jerry Landcastle was surprised Maureen didn't recognize all his worldly possessions in the truck.  Rich Jacobson was happy for his son's mission trip to New Orleans.  Jack Curnow wondered if Larry's suit was as old as Maureen.  Greg Thulin was happy for his 14th anniversary.  Max Legg because there are plenty of funds available to fight the ACLU's suit to remove prayer from the NavalAcademy.  Dick Donahue was happy for Pete Kremen's decision, and that things were all worked out at the camp for the B2B event.  Elisabeth Barnard was happy that her best friend, who had suffered kidney failure, was now out of the hospital.  

 

FINEMASTER:   Randy Carr was very pained to have to fine his fellow Rotarians, nonetheless he persevered:   Bob Bowman was fined for being the last one in, and not sitting with our guest Fred, who was all alone.  Jack Curnow for a comment not in the spirit of building stronger friendships, anyone who did not make it to the Brewers on the Bay event was fined $1.  Tim Carpenter for his Hawaiian shirt, even if he claimed to have a good excuse.  Randy attempted to fine Greg Thulin for describing his cat as dead when it was not dead yet, but in fact it is now dead, so everyone, especially Randy, felt pretty bad about that comment. 

 

BANNERS: The cover of the August Rotarian Magazine featured building Bridges, and so did Stan's banner display.
