MEETING TO ORDER:

President Scott Piper called this special meeting to order and Gary Tomsic gave the invocation.

GUESTS AND VISITING ROTARIANS:

Mike Kirkland from BellinghamBay, George Tsakumis from Vancouver, Kay Rich from Sunrise Club and Sheriff Bill Elfo from Bellingham.  Scott Piper introduced his guest, Cheryl Fischer, a mortgage consultant at Wells Fargo Bank.

GUESTS:

Many of the families and friends of the youth service award recipients were present.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

A reminder for our upcoming Installation Luncheon on June 29th.

There are still two spots available at the Pete Kremen fellowship dinner on June 4 and more hosts are still needed.

Anyone who is interested in participating in the Golf Fun at Homestead golf course on August 11th please contact Tim Carpenter.

HAPPY BUCKS:

Gary Tomsic was happy that his wife works for Brian.  Ken Richardson was glad to see all the people present and the good attendance.  Jack Curnow was happy to be asked to host a student.  Phil Bratt (co-chair of the YSA luncheon) was thankful to Mary Kanikeberg,Tim Villhauer, Randy Carr, Dave Adamson, Maureen Camandona and Jack Curnow for all their help.  Max Legg was happy to return from the Cayman Islands,

FINEMASTER:

Finemaster Roger Lehnert thanked Phil Bratt, as only he can be thanked, with a $5 fine.  Max Legg who was only $5 happy for having been to the Grand Caymans was fined an additional $2.  Brad Peterson was fined for an eye injury.  Though Roger didn't want to fine Bill Elfo (because he didn't want to upset him for obvious reasons) it was mentioned that he was sitting at a table with two public officials (Ken Richardson and Jerry Landcastle) and with an attorney, to boot (Dick Langabeer).  Dave Adamson was asked if he took biology.  When Dave said "yes", he was fined for the fact that it was not physically possible for both he and his wife to be pregnant (as in "we're pregnant").  The next fine was the process of elimination when all the men were asked to stand up.  Those who gave flowers to the Moms in their family were allowed to sit and all the guys who took the Moms in their families out for brunch, lunch, dinner even Dairy Queen were allowed to sit while the rest were fined $2 (with the exception of the guy in the purple shirt).

PROGRAM:

Phil Bratt introduced the program by giving an over view of Rotary and what "Service to Others" means.  He stated that the reason each of these students would receive this award was because they shared Rotary's idea of "Service to the Community".  Each will receive a $500 scholarship, $250 for each recipient from the Whatcom County North Rotary and $250 from the following banks; Northwest Bank, Banner Bank, Horizon Bank, Pacific Northwest Bank, Sterling Savings and Loan, US Bank and People's Bank.

The following eight schools and the students representing these schools are as follows;

4)  LyndenHigh School (Christa Brown)

8)  NooksackHigh School (Karli Postma)

Phil Bratt closed by thanking the student nominees, parents and counselors for coming.
