Northwind March 16, 2017

Call to order: Past President-Ken Richardson led us in the pledge of allegiance and led the Moment of Reflection. He serves again later in the meeting as fine master. This is definitely the Ken Richardson show today! Thank you Ken for stepping in with basically no notice and holding us together.

Returning Rotarians:  Marlene is back from what she referred to as “hard labor” as she has now joined the ranks of workers employed by others rather than “self-employment”; having a boss is a less flexible and forgiving model than she has had for many years. This should be interesting to watch, given we all know\appreciate how flexible and forgiving Marlene is.

 

Birthdays:  Stan Brunner is 97 today.  Happy Birthday Stan!  We eagerly look forward to your 100^th birthday celebration! (Stan is still driving- passed his test with flying colors!).

 

Membership Anniversary:   Jill Iwasaki gets a second mention for her second anniversary in the club and Rollo is now beginning his 7^th year in the club.  Congratulations to both of you!

 

Announcements:  Career fair (3/30/17) some presenters still need to be found.  Greg Iwasaki has information if you need to check on this. Greg thinks the collating process will be on Monday or Tuesday evening 3/27-28. He will let us know next week.

 

Rubber Ducky Derby sponsors still needed. We have stalled at $8,250 in sponsorship support and we must have a minimum of $12,000 (to cover prize money) and preferably $20,000, to hold the race.  Derby to be held 8/26/17; mark your calendars and keep asking for sponsor support.

 

Ferndale Chamber of Commerce lunches are the third Wednesday of the month. Dale wants someone from the club to attend this luncheon every month; he will be attending the 4/19 event and needs company. Check your calendars and call him!

 

Youth Service Awards lunch is scheduled for May 18^th at Northwood Hall.  ICU is again the matching sponsor for the student awards. Thank you ICU!  Greg Iwasaki is working on the logistics.

 

Fund Raising committee meeting held every Monday morning, 7:00 AM, at Little Cheerful. Ken and Tim would love to have greater club participation! 

 

Happy Bucks:  Ken is $5 happy to see the sunshine today, Jenny is happy her new knee is not giving her pains today (as it did yesterday) and Eric Matthews is happy for Jim Blaney as his father in law.  Greg was $5 happy for Jill’s anniversary in the club and Bill is happy for spring flowers, Stan’s birthday and his asthma (indicator of spring is here). Julie was $5 happy that she is almost done with Northwind duty, Marlene is $5 happy she does not have NW duty and for Stan’s birthday. Rollo was appropriately happy for Rebecca’s new book contract and Jake was happy for Stan’s birthday and something he forgot. Pati was happy that Eric Battles stepped in to provide our program today on short notice.

 

Fine Master:  Ken had triple duty today!  There was a fine for not being happy and then a $2 fine for everyone present just to get on with the meeting.

 

Program:  Eric Battles presented a program about Hometown Heroes: people who qualify for the program include anyone past or present who meets the following criteria:

Raffle:  Jenny Barnhart won the door prize and Ken drew the 50/50 raffle; he did not pick the ace of spades; the pot grows.  Winners take next week is $194
