Call to order: President Sharon Robinson led us in the pledge of allegiance and Jake Smith led the invocation.
In attendance were Jake, Stan, Laurie, Bill, Pati, Tim, Eric, Rollo, Julie, Marlene, Ken, Jim S, Jim B, Rocky, Dan and Sharon.
Visiting Rotarians: Pam Brady from Sunrise
Guests of Rotarians: Tim introduced Shannon Day, a Financial Advisor in his office.
Returning Rotarians: Dan announced this is a retreat day for him, not a normal day that he would be able to attend, everybody enjoyed a good laugh when he said he want to Northwood Hall for Youth Recognition (he was joking??)
Birthdays: Laurie
Announcements: Youth Recognition is next week at Northwood Hall; try to arrive at 11:30. We still need table Captains. June 4th is hands on for Star Park. The Picnic celebrating Sharon’s happy day, which happens to also mark the changing of the guard, also know as The Installation Dinner is June 23rd at Hovander Park, it starts at 5 PM, bring a side dish.
Happy Bucks: Bill was happy to announce the Elks Lodge is having a picnic this Saturday that is open to the public, also a $1 not to be used to bribe a politician. Laurie Mariners ahead, and then won. Stan $1 his son Don sold his house in Spokane. Rollo $1 happy his daughter on her way home from her junior year. Marlene was happy that it’s a good day. Rocky was $5 happy. Ken I did not catch. Pati was happy to have BP speakers. Sharon felt guilty to be so happy. Tim was $2 happy to finally get Shannon to a meeting and it’s a great day to be alive. Dan donated $? Because there was lady on the side of the road that he gave $20 to because it’s a tough world, also wanted to mention there are a lot of brain cancer walks. Tim gave another $1 because he was still happy after Dan’s donation (Dan was from the heart, so really it was an acknowledgement) Jake paid $5 as advanced fines (is there really such a thing?)
Fine Mistress: Marlene was her normally brilliant witty self. She fined anyone that has not been a Fine Master two weeks in a row. Saturday sports world: Jake got the Preakness; Ken was fined for bugging her. Dan was smacked $2 for not telling the truth about going to Northwood Hall. Ken was fined $2 for shorts, then Rocky was too and also for making the family look like Hillbillies, then Dan was also for his shorts. Tim was disciplined $3 for getting money from Pati. This day in 1973: Dan $1 for being 7 years old. Bill$2 wrong guess that Mt St Helens blew, Ken $1 for Seattle Slew, Rocky was correct that Secretariat won the Preakness on the way to the Triple Crown (That Hillbilly family knows their horses!). Eric did not know where the next International Rotary Convention will be held, Ken got was correct with Seoul South Korea. Julie $1 for not knowing the cover of the Rotary Magazine, Laurie knew it was the photo contest. Rocky was fined for being colorblind when he incorrectly stated the color of the cover. Jake was fined $1 for a fine invocation.
Banners: Another brilliant display from Stan. Fined $1 for incorrect guesses were Ken, Pati and Rollo. It was in honor of Armed Forces Day on 5/21.
Program: Pati introduced two speakers from BP, Chris Kock is the charge of Maintenance and Reliability Manager at BP’s Cherry Point Refinery, and Pam Brady is an Associate Director of Government and Public Affairs for BP. They shared many interesting facts about BP such as BP has over 17000 employees in the US and 170000 supported jobs. They also run 16 wind farms and 3 refineries in the US. BP Cherry Point has spent $160M with venders, 200+ venders supported, $105M in taxes paid, it was commissioned in 1971/72, 800 BP employees and 400 contractors daily. BP donated 200 acres to conservation, Whatcom Land Trust; are a member of the World Wildlife Habitat Council since 2009; works with NSEA.
Raffle: Rocky won the day prize (flower pressing kit) and Eric drew the 50/50 raffle. He did not pick the ace of spades; it was the five of hearts so the pot grows. He missed out on $778.
