MEETING TO ORDER:  President Chuck Tull called the meeting to order at 12:30 and Tony Cubellis gave the invocation.

Several members brought family members to hear our Brazilian visitors presentation: Deb Staeb (Rick) , Willa Macaleer (Leah), Marge Laidlaw (Scott Wallace), Rick Tieman (Nancy), Patti Villhauer (Tim)

 

BIRTHDAYS:  none

 

RETURNING ROTARIANS:  Marlene Had a great time in Nevada

 

FOUNDATION MINUTE: 

  • Tim Villhauer talked about club goal setting for annual giving.  Our minimum goal is $2,000.

 

ACCOUNCEMENTS:

  • Youth Service Awards next week.  We still need one more bank.  Let Sharon or Leah know if you have a contact we can call.  Participating banks are currently Bank of the Pacific, WECU, Peoples, Skagit State Bank, Whidbey Island Bank, US Bank, and Key Bank
  • Bill Grace:  Whatcom in Bloom contest needs sponsors ($50-100).  If interested or know of anyone that might be interested, see Bill or Laurie Lloyd.
  • Committee sign-ups:  send Marlene an email about which committee(s) you are interested to participate on.
  • Club in Club--send Tim Villhauer additional potential invitees.  Looking for more folks to participate.  All club members and spouses are encouraged to attend.  Will be held at the Dakota Creek Christian Center.
  • Great fun at our group study exchange dinner at the Tiemans.

 

HAPPY BUCKS:

Many happy bucks for the great GSE dinner and the presence of our Brazilian guests.  In addition to that, Bill Grace was happy we are having great weather for his house painters, Paul Cooley just returned from a week of skydiving training where he did 34 skydives, Jack Curnow bought a house while visiting the Florida Keys recently, Tony Cubellis missed the GSE dinner to celebrate wife's birthday, Jim Bliss was blessed to spend time the GSE folks, Marlene was happy that her youngest daughter recently become engaged, Norm Vigre was happy his Dad filled in as a GSE driver, Pete Ruese's wife Lynn now has additional remodel ideas from the Tieman's house, and Tim Carpenter was happy for his last 8 days in Palm Springs.

PROGRAM:   The Group Study Exchange was started in 1965.  Today we are joined by a group sponsored by the 4730 district of Southern Brazil, in Parana.  All five visitors from Brazil introduced themselves and gave brief overviews of their education, background and jobs.  Marcelo described the Rotary program in Parana State.  The visitors then told us a little about Brazil and its economy, geography, industries, demographics, natural resources, weather, religion, education, sports and the local food.  They then talked more specifically about Parana State and the various Rotary projects currently underway as well as some that were done in the past.
