President Sharon called the meeting to order.  Your editor provided the invocation.
 
No Visiting Rotarians
 
Guests included Marlene’s brother Steve and his wife Dana.
 
Returning Rotarians:  Rocky back from foot surgery.
Birthdays and Anniversaries:  Stan had his 96th birthday on March 16th.  Happy Birthday Stanley.
 
Announcements:   Brian Lott is resigning from the club to return to South Africa to assist in the operation of the family business.
WCN received a request from Pure Water for the World to participate in a project; the request will be turned over to the Projects Committee.
Next Board meeting is March 23rd at the Zervas Group offices beginning at 4pm.  All members are welcome.
Duck Derby tickets will be going to the printer soon and our goal is to sell 3000 $20 Derby tickets.  Start making your list of potential buyers.
Dale updated us on the Career Fair and all is well.
President Sharon recognized Eric Battles for his completion of his Blue Badge requirements.
 
Happy Bucks:  Bill Grace was $10 happy about a recent real estate transaction.  Deb Wiggs was $20 happy about her New Business venture. Dale had a $5 IOU to welcome our speaker and happy that his Hawaii Condo rental didn’t fall through.  Stan was $96 happy about his recent birthday.  Julie was $2 happy about no wind damage during the recent storm.  Greg was happy about his recent heart evaluation. Ken was $10 happy about the speaker, Rocky being back and guests visiting today.  Rock had $40 for being back and 38 of those for his and Sylvia’s wedding anniversary.  Marlene was happy to have her guests here today.  Sharon had some happy bucks for St. Patrick’s Day.  Pati had $25 Happy Bucks for their 25th wedding anniversary.
 
Fine Master:  Mr. Blaney stepped to the podium to fine everyone who had IOUs in the pot.  $1 from everyone even if you are Irish.  $1 if you were a Navy Veteran.  We should have fined Jim for his joke about the fire in their bathroom which they were able to put it out before it reached the house.  Everyone who didn’t know about Swing Connection paid a buck.

Program:  Linda Giles from Junior Achievement was today’s program.  She was very happy to be working with our club’s Career Fair.  Linda’s office provides JA services to Whatcom, Skagit and Island counties.  JA started in 1919 originally as an after school program for high school students.  In 1975 they expanded to middle schools with the Business Projects curriculum.  Since then, JA expanded to include Kindergarten to 12th grade students.  They are the largest non-profit organization dedicated to giving young people the skills and knowledge to plan their futures, own their economic success and make smart academic and economic choices.  (Is it a want or a need?)
The 3 pillars of JA are:  Work Readiness, Financial Literacy and Entreprenurialship.
Funding for JA comes entirely from Donation from the Community.  Schools request JA to come into the class rooms.  JA recruits and trains all of the volunteers.  They will then match the volunteers with the schools and teachers that have requested JA services.  An upcoming event will be JA Day at Kendall Elementary School. Volunteers are always welcome and there are several upcoming including Ferndale schools so if you would like to help out contact Linda at 360.685.4252.
 
Drawing: Marlene won the door prize and then pulled her own ticket for the drawing but unfortunately drew the King of Spades.  So…. The pot continues to grow.
