Call to Order:  President Sharon called her last meeting to order and led us in the flag salute.

Invocation:  Jim Blaney provided the invocation and pleased Sharon with his address to the “Architect of the Universe.”   Thank you, Jim!

Visiting Rotarians:  Nancy Jordan (B’ham club.)

Guests:  Jim B. his granddaughter, Kelsey.  She’s from Kirkesville MO.  (Hometown of Past RI President, Ray Klinginsmith.)  Sue accompanied Ken, always glad to see her!  Welcome!

Returning Rotarians:  Dan returned for his monthly visit and Pati and Tim returned from a trip to Iowa.

Anniversaries and Birthdays:  Laurie celebrates her June 29th birthday!

Announcements:  Sharon had a meeting with the other Whatcom County Rotary Presidents and a joint project for this coming year will be the Food Fest (Stop Hunger) on November 19th.  Save this date for a fun and worthwhile event.  The clubs also want to do a video project for the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Foundation and the 100th anniversary of the B’ham Club.  They are looking for members to tell about projects, past and present.  They will also be looking for Rotary memorabilia from the early days.  Also, prepare for a black-tie gala event to celebrate the centennial.  Bill announced that he has more duck tickets should anyone need them.  He also gave some selling “tips” and a reminder that we will be selling at Ferndale Haggen’s this Saturday. President Dale announced there will be NO MEETING next week, July 7th, because of the 4th of July holiday.  Next meeting will be the 14th and it will be a club assembly.  He wants us to think about what we can do as individuals to revitalize the club.  (For example, if we each brought in one new member, it would double the club, if the math is right.)    The theme for next year is “Serving Humanity.”   Pati announced that we will not be meeting in the usual place on the 21st, but looking into an evening event at the Bellwether.  Look for an email.

Happy Bucks: Bill started things off with Happy Bucks for his good, (but lonely) ticket sales last weekend.  He was also happy to be going to visit family in Kelso this weekend, but sad that he wore shorts on a cold day.  Dale was $15 happy.  $5 to thank Sharon for all her good work this past Rotary year, $5 for his father being able to come home from the hospital, and $5 for all the work Sharon and Greg put into the fun picnic.  Jill was happy that Greg is doing well and also happy her son, Jason is eloping on July 8 and that the boys will turn 36 on July 4th.  Stan had ambiguous bucks.  Happy that he had a good visit with Rich Jacobson, but sad for the reason, which was that Rich’s father had passed away.  Nancy was $5 happy to shamelessly advertise the display surrounding the room.  This is a timeline of the Lummi Fisheries and is an interesting read.  Dan was happy to pay off his IOU and add apology bucks as he was expected in court and had to leave early.  Rollo was $10 happy to be leaving soon for 2 weeks in Hawaii .  Jim B. was happy for his wife’s 91st birthday today.  Kelsey was happy to be visiting the best grandparents in the world and happy for our weather.  Jim S. gave $39 for missing 2 meetings and $2 happy to pay fines that Ken gave him.  Ken was $20 happy today…$5 to have Sue with him, $5 for the “record” attendance today, and $5 for his trip to see his girls and baseball in San Francisco and $5 ‘just because.”  Laurie was $69 happy for her birthday, making her a “pre-post war” baby.  Tim was $20 happy for the great job Sharon did as President and that Dale will be the next President, making it a hard act for Tim to follow in 2017-2018.  He was also happy for his mother’s 90th birthday. Pati was happy for Sharon’s good job as President.  Sharon did not want to say she was sad, but gave Happy Bucks for a fun and exciting year and she is looking forward to Dale taking the reins.  Julie had happy bucks for the good job Pati has done with the programs. Tim added more happy bucks because he gets to tell the story of their dog eating Pati’s hearing aids, which reminded Bill to give more $ because a dog ate his friend’s hearing aids and chewed up his money, which reminded Jake that he was happy to have found his hearing aids after 2 months.  Seems they got washed with some pants with lots of pockets.
Finemaster:  Marlene did the honors and began with fining anyone on the Northwind committee that did not have to be finemaster, too.  Bill was fined for taking fashion advice from Ken.  Jim B. was fined for the ridiculous little duck in his car window. Dale received a “welcome to the Presidency” fine, Sharon was fined as a “has been” (ex-President.) Tim and  Pati were fined for all the food pictures they posted on FB. Ken was fined for not carpooling with Rocky to CA.  Dan was fined for his “Macy’s Collection” of court clothes. And last, but not least, Jake was fined for being last in.

Banners:  Rollo got the banners which represented Brexit.  Way to go, Stan!

Program:  Today’s program was Rob Fix, Executive Director of the Port of Bellingham.  Rob began by explaining the Port Positions, which include Commissioners, Facilities,  and Real Estate.  He also discussed the businesses that add to the local economy, (Woodstone Pizza, for example.)  He talked about Aviation and the effect of the falling Canadian dollar, as well as the terminal expansion and the runway improvements, which makes B’ham International just like a real airport!   There was a good discussion about the Waterfront District and project overview.  (There are 5 distinct projects which include the marine trades, downtown waterfront, log pond, shipping terminal, and Cornwall Beach.)  Questions and answers included such topics as the effect of drones, lasers, and other security issues.  This was a great program!  Thank you, Rob.

Drawing:   Ken won the door prize which was a picture frame.  In a moment of insanity, he re-donated it.  Sue gladly took the frame and will talk to Ken about his impulse control later.  Bill had the ticket for the drawing and returned the candle he donated.  Sadly, he drew the 6 of clubs, so he goes home with nothing and the pot grows.  It is now OVER $902.50!
Remember:  No meeting next week!  Happy 4th of July!
