MEETING TO ORDER:    President Laurie called the meeting to order at 12:30  and thank you to Rollo for being the Greeter, as best he could, after so much rum in Hawaii.  Jim Blaney gave the invocation splendidly.

GUESTS:  Tom Lawless (sorry, that’s probably wrong spelling) from Reardon Dodge/Chrysler.

VISITING ROTARIANS:  George Tskumis from Vancouver

BIRTHDAY:  July 30th - Ken Richardson, he must be out celebrating already.

ROTARY ANIVERSARIES: Sharon – 11 (which is 10ish), Greg Iwasaki 20, and Stan 38, which he was able to immediately calculate!

RETURNING ROTARIANS: Rollo from Hawaii

  • Special announcement: Max Legg received his second Paul Harris pin, a lovely sapphire which happens to be his birthstone.

HAPPY ROTARIANS:  Sharon for a roof on one of her buildings, Julie for an upcoming trip to Waldron Island, Max for his award, Marlene for having a day off this weke.  George for his daughter’s visit – from horribly hot Arizona, Gary T. for a trip to Leavenworth, Tim C because all his days are days off.  Greg T. for 18-year wedding anniversary, with 28 years Rollo had him beat by a decade (or is it the other way around?)  Greg I. gave apology bucks for leaving early.  Ray gave $5 happy bucks for his RV property almost ready to use, and for his guest.  Jake also had to leave early.

 FINEMASTERESS:  Marlene:

Greg T. was fined for not knowing the definition of chivalry – at minimum it seems to involve not laughing when your wife spills beer on herself.  Tim C for bragging about his days off, anyone who didn’t attend the Bay club’s Brewers By the Bay event, anyone who has not given their significant other a gift recently, anyone who uses Twitter, anyone who has not sold duck tickets, anyone affiliated with the Navy – for sending out sonar signals, Brian for having too cute a kid, anyone who hasn’t voted yet, anyone who was wearing long sleeves.  Also Norm for not mentioning vacation in Portland and Rollo for missing the Olympics.  Ray for hunting, and talking about hunting when the Humane society Executive Director is our featured guest.  Jake for being last in AND first out.

Laura updated us on the latest news from WHS including the exciting progress on the new shelter.  Thanks to some very generous anonymous donations the property was able to be purchased, and is now in the process of being renovated.  They still need to raise capital and any donation up to $1 million is being matched by the donor.    New programs including educational programs and kids programs will be able to be implemented in the new shelter.   Laura took lots of questions on various topics, including the legalities of seizing animals like the 48 puppy mill puppies, why someone might be turned down for an adoption, various exotic animals they have fostered, and what sorts of donations are needed.  Lots! Peanut butter, plastic bins, blankets, any type of animal food.

 DRAWING:  Derek’s ticket was drawn, he let Marlene draw the card for him – very close ace of clubs, but not a winner.  Whew!
