 Sharon is filling in for  President  Rocky.  Sharon called the club assembly to order and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Marlene provided the invocation.  Marlene announced a moment of silence to contemplate on Equality.

 

 

Julie announced that Board of Directors Meeting will take place on Wednesday at her office.  RLI conference is coming up in Mount Vernon on January 21^st; Sharon and Lori will attend. Rollo announced that so far we have 4-5 Club Members have “signed up” to sponsor the Duck Race.  Others are encouraged to follow their example.  Rollo also delivered a message from Dale (who is absent today) that the Career Fair sing-up email has been sent out.

 

Bill happy about driving a Chevy.  Tim and Patti gave Happy Bucks for the Hawks win.  Rollo gave Happy Bucks for Lori.  Stan gave Happy Bucks, but said he does not remember what they are for; he is happy never-the-less. Pete was happy about physical therapy not hurting him as much. Marlene gave Happy Bucks in Lieu of fines (Smart Lady!) and being happy to get to spend time with her grandchildren.  Sharon was happy about chairing her first meeting this year (look out President Rocky!).  Lori was happy for the Seahawks and sad for the Ducks.  Ken was happy he got to “KVAK” during the Ducks game. Pete is happy Ken bought him a drink at the bar before the meeting. Julie is happy about her 4 grandchildren (and her) being featured in the Making a Difference at Ferndale Library article

 

 

Fine Master Ken asked decided that the way to levy the most fines would be to test the club’s knowledge of trivia (or more appropriately, lack thereof).  Ken asked what event took place on this date in 1967.  Rollo answered that it was the 1^st Super Bowl, but did not remember who won.  Tim was able to come up with the answer.  Everyone else was fined. Continuing in the pop-quiz fashion, Fine Master Ken asked what first appeared in 1807.  No one could answer: more fines.  The answer was the Donkey became a symbol for Democratic Party.  Ken asked us what was the last Rotarian cover story … fines for everyone!  Ken really ratcheted things up and demanded to know if anyone can tell him what are “Zombie Houses”, every one reached for their wallet.

Rocky was fined for not showing up, Ken paid Rocky’s fine as he was glad Rocky stayed home.

 

 

 

Lori Introduced Nick Cables of Bellingham Bells.

The Bellingham Bells are a collegiate summer baseball team in the West Coast League.

The team is composed of college baseball players from teams around U.S. In recent years, the Bells have produced a number of Major League players including Marc Rzepczynski of the 2011 World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals, Jeff Francis of the 2007 National League Champion Colorado Rockies, and Whatcom County natives Ty Taubenheim (Toronto Blue Jays), Kevin Richardson (Texas Rangers), and Jake Locker.

In 2014 the Bellingham Bells became the 4th team in WCL history to win a championship, going 37-17 for the season. David Bigelow set a WCL record for most games played, with 29 games in the season. As a whole team the Bells had 20 saves on the season setting the record for the most saves by any team in WCL history. Their 0.202 opponents' batting average as a team tied the record set by the 2005 Aloha Knights. Bellingham saw 47,307 fans in the seats at Joe Martin Field in just 32 home games, with an average of 1,478 people per night.
