MEETING TO ORDER:  President Chuck Tull called the meeting to order at 12:30 and Pete Kremen gave the invocation.

 

VISITING ROTARIANS:

Sharon Robinson introduced Bruce Brabec and Ray George introduced Larry Raney.

 

BIRTHDAYS: 

Happy birthday to Bill Grace on January 18 and remembering Brad Peterson on January 12.

 

RETURNING ROTARIANS: none

 

FOUNDATION MINUTE:  Sharon Robinson talked about how group study exchange can make history.

 

ACCOUNCEMENTS:

  • Bill Grace is taking a leave of absence
  • Meeting location discussion
    • Members should contact board with their thoughts and opinions
    • Rick Staeb will look into activating the Club website  discussion ("blog") area  and will email all members on how to use it.   Members are encouraged to use this forum to discuss the location issue.
    • Results of last year's poll have been/are being considered by the Board.
    • Rich Staeb will forward an email summarizing club history to all members to give additional context for location decision.
    • Jerry Landcastle encouraged leadership to negotiate minimum meal numbers and cost one last time with Northwest Hall prior to vote.
    • Board will meet at 11:00 a.m. next Thursday prior to regular lunch meeting to vote on the location issue. All members are encouraged to attend to give input, after which the Board will vote. The final decision is in the hands of the board.
  • Election of officers/directors will take place at next week's meeting.  Following are the nominees:
    • Paul Cooley: President
    • Sharon Robinson: Secretary
    • Julie Johansen and Jack Curnow: Treasurer
    • Tim Carpenter, Director
    • Still need one more Director nomination
  • Auction:  Don Baker passed out last week's presentation slides.  Dick Donahoe is collecting ticket stubs and cash.  There are only  58 days left until the auction. tickets must be sold along and auction items collected
  • New lunch invoices were recently sent out. Members are asked to get their money for lunches to Gary Tomsic as soon as possible

 

HAPPY BUCKS: 

  • Marlene Sexton-outpouring of love and support for Bob
  • Tim Villhauer-meaningful Bob Bowman service, football results and his new office
  • Ray George-no longer be responsible for the most awkward meeting
  • Mel Hollinger--$1 saved by having delicious meal here rather than somewhere else and $1 because Suzie will be missed if we move
  • Tim Carpenter-kind words about for Bob, and feeling more positive about club direction
  • Maureen McCarthy-WTA ridership is up while the rest of the nation is down
  • Chuck seconded  Tim's feelings
  • Bruce remembered Bob with great joy; was glad to be here, good to see everyone
  • Maureen will miss Bob's "twinkle"
  • Dan Baker happy about something he wished not to disclose
  • George Tsakumis has been joining us for 10 yrs and hopes that the right location decision is made the first time
  • Scott Wallace was happy for a good goose hunt and good beer
  • Ken Richardson said it was great to see everyone at Bob's service and he was happy to get off the island

 

FINEMASTER: Max Legg was this week's fine master in a short fine session.

  • Tim Carpenter paid for being the last one in
  • Group fines for anyone not doing jury duty in the last five years and Seahawks Fans for the new coach
  • Jake Smith fined for sitting at a different table
  • In a bold new technology move,  Max texted Randy Carr a fine because Randy was absent from the meeting but tweeted in from Brook's lumber  

 

BANNERS: 

This week represented an emendation (definition: to correct or alter a text in order to improve it) of last week's blank 2010 banner with the addition of 2 new banners that Tim Carpenter brought in from Arizona

 

PROGRAM:   Myra Harmon presented an overview of "healthy dark chocolate".  She said that most commercial chocolates are boiled and "dutched" but her product is cold pressed, no fillers added and has Acai berried added.   One ounce of chocolate has the antioxidant properties of 9 ounces of spinach.  Ms. Harmon then showed a video on the need for and benefits of antioxidants and provided everyone samples of the chocolate.  For more information, check out the website:  www.mydrchocolate.com.  Dick Nolan invited everyone to a chocolate tasting that is held on Thursday evenings, Fairhaven Realty, 1100 11th Street in Bellingham stating at 630pm.  See Dick for more details.
