NORTHWIND MEETING TO ORDER:

President Tim Villhauer called the meeting to order at 12:30 and Gary Tomsic gave the invocation.

VISITING ROTARIANS: Barrie Seaton from Port Moody and Randy Bode from the Mt. Baker Club

GUESTS: Jerry Lancaster introduced his wife Sharon.

BIRTHDAYS: None

RETURNING ROTARIANS: Rome Sarwas returned from a belated Christmas trip to see his parents in Wisconsin.

Congratulations were extended to Larry and Minnie Pollet for their 50 year wedding anniversary.

There will be a book singing by Joe Mosher today ("American Flyer in Buchenwald")

Everyone is reminded to check the roster for corrections, need spouse's name and up to date photos

Ã' Sign up to build picnic tables for Meridian HS. 15 volunteers are needed on February 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

There will be a fundraiser meeting next Thursday at 11 a.m. at our NW location

A ski package (2 nights and ski passes) for 4 adults at Sun Peaks to be used by April 13â?"will be auctioned next week

Dan Parsons is looking into our club adopting a highway. More information will be shared later. This is a twice/year project.

FINEMASTER: Dick Nolan was fined for phone calls received during meeting. Group fines were levied for everyone who did not help remind Jack he got the call, everyone who bought raffle ticket and kept wrong end, everyone without a tie and all those who were leaving early and did not apologize to speaker. Tim V read a few articles that prompted fines for the following: all attorneys, anyyone who ever previously fined him, Gary Tomsic because a county is out of funds, anyone who owns a gun and anyone who owns a cat.

BANNERS: Every name was a reference to running water

PROGRAM: The guest speaker was Barrie Seaton, District 5050 Public Relations Chair and has been a Rotarian for 10 years. He talked on three topics. The first topic was about Rotary International Public Realations. He encouraged us to tap into local talent in order to seek free PR to increase awareness for Rotary membership and giving. He also challenged the membership to spread the word in a "soft campaign" by confidently discussing rotary. To be as knowledgeable as possible take time to review the Rotary International website for information: www.rotary.com (PR sections). Mr. Seaton's second topic of discussion was the $100 Million Challenge. This is a program where money is donated to match that given by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation over three years for Polio Plus. He shared a variety of PR materials that have been developed to raise money for this purposeâ?"all of which are available on the website noted above. Finally, Mr. Seaton discussed the 2008 Rotary International Convention that was held last June in Los Angeles. There were over 20,000 attendees. Barrie shared stories and photos of the activities and speakers, all of which were focused on polio eradication.
