Call to Order:  Dale opened the meeting and lead us in the flag salute.

Moment of Reflection:  Marlene provided words to live by, originally penned by Earl Holt.

Visiting Rotarians:  Nancy Jordan (B’ham club)

Guests:  Tim and Pati brought Rotary Y.E.S. student, Peter Adams and Dan Barry accompanied Dale

Birthdays/Anniversaries:  No Birthdays this week, but Linda celebrates 2 years in Rotary.

Announcements:  Peter Adams spoke about the Y.E.S. (Youth Engaged in Services) program.  Peter is the only student from Whatcom County in this Rotary Program and he filled us in on his many hours of service, both locally and afar.  Y.E.S. members will soon be going to Guatemala to provide stoves that not only are more efficient, they are much safer for families.  Peter is selling raffle tickets and hopefully, Whatcom County and WCNR will outdo Skagit County in this endeavor!  For more information on Y.E.S., contact Bev Harrington (Y.E.S. Program Chair) at 360-421-0601.  The Luck of the Irish is this Saturday and the proceeds go to buying stoves.  Let Greg know if interested.  There will be a Board meeting on March 1st at Sharon’s office, (Zervas at 4:00).  The Rubber Duck Derby needs to finalize details and we are pushing to get more sponsors!  Remember, we don’t need the money until July, but pledges are needed by early March.  Sharon and Rollo will be going to the next Ferndale Chamber Lunch and networking for more RDD sponsors/ticket sales, as well as presenters for the Career Fair on March 30th.  Dale’s dad is in charge of getting Dale to send out the list of presenters.  On April 20th, Dale will need a date to attend the Ferndale Chamber Luncheon.  Sign up now before the rush!  Dale concluded with sharing a nice thank you note from Scholarship winner, Tara Doyle

Happy Bucks:  Tim was happy to be attending PETS this weekend and also happy for a visit with Dan Parsons.  Pati was $3 happy to be going to Hawaii on Sunday and for our guest, Peter Adams.  Sharon gave her last $5 to express her happiness for a new car.  Bill was happy he had his trees trimmed before the storm.  Rollo and Ken were both happy out of habit.  Marlene was happy that her daughter’s family has such a good neighbor in Stan’s daughter, Jakie (Janella).  Laurie was happy about the stock market.  Nancy was happy for her short commute for make-ups and also happy for our guests Peter and Swil Kanim.  Stan was also happy for the good friendship between Jakie and Marlene’s granddaughter, Maddie.  Jake felt it was enough that he is just happy and Dale gave his last dollar for Peter and Swil and would have given more if he got a new car.

Finemaster:  Rollo played the role and it required thinking.  First, The Usuals:  $1 for no pins.  $1 to anyone bragging about going to Hawaii.  $1 if you were wearing shorts or a tie. (Was Ken wearing shorts AND a tie?) Not sure who got the Jake Smith Award, but it cost them a $1.  Now for the thinking part:  Where was the flag raised on this date?  (Iwo Jima.)  Marlene was not fined for knowing the first animal cloned on this date in 1997 was a sheep named Dolly.  You were fined if you did not know that Rotary was celebrating its 112th anniversary.  If you did not know that a group of children in Pittsburgh received the first polio injections on this date in 1954.    You were fined if you did not know how many total meals were packaged at Rise Against Hunger: (25 million.)  You were fined if you did not know the predominate color of the latest Rotarian magazine.  (Green due to Toxic Algae in Lake Eerie.)  And if you did not know that the Rotary Club in Trenton Michigan raises money by Skydiving. You paid up if you did not know which President died in office 32 days after his inauguration, (Harrison), and if you did not know the oldest President (Reagan) and youngest, (Kennedy.)

Program:  Today’s program was a great one by Native American violinist, story teller, and teacher, Swil Kanim.  Words really cannot express how impressive this program was.  Swil shared his life lessons and among those, learning that the greatest gift is your presence and being “true”.  Swil played his own violin composition based on “self-destruction” with this message: That the hurt of one, is the hurt of all and the honor of one, is the honor of all.  His music is healing and if you missed today’s meeting, you missed a fantastic one.  Read more about Swil on his Facebook page…Time and space do not allow me to list all his accomplishments!

Drawing:  Marlene won the chocolates, (making Mark a happy guy!) and Rollo drew the 2 of diamonds, so the pot grows!
