Call to Order: President Dale called the meeting to order and led us in the flag salute.
Invocation: Rollo provided an excellent moment of reflection.
Visiting Rotarians: Nancy Jordan and Dominique Zervas (Jim Zervas’ daughter,) and Terry Treat all visited us today. Welcome!
Guests: None.
Returning Rotarians: Tim and Pati returned from a lovely trip to Arizona.
Anniversaries and Birthdays: No Birthdays, but Julie celebrates 23 years in Rotary. (And Marlene celebrates 11, but apparently, that was to remain a secret!

Announcements: Dale updated us on the Duck Derby and he will be talking with Jake at the Locker Room to see if he will become a sponsor. Jake Locker and his wife may attend a lunch in the future. The Fundraising Committee is still meeting for Monday morning breakfast, but now they meet at the Little Cheerful Café. Career Fair is March 30th and Dale will be meeting with the “Subway Guy” to discuss cutting up sandwiches. We are getting some responses for presenters, but look for emails to confirm. ICU agreed to match us with YSA money. (This will be happening in May.) Terry and Dominique announced Las Vegas Night (B’ham Rotary fundraiser) to be held on Feb. 11th at the Mt. Baker Theater. There will be dinner, drinks, gambling, circus entertainment, magic, and Elvis! Tickets can be purchased at MBT box office. Also, we will be celebrating a Whatcom County Rotary Centennial on Sept. 23rd., with a Gala event. They will be making a video project with all the clubs in the County. On Feb. 15th, Rollo and Dale will be attending the Ferndale Chamber lunch and Saturday night the Mt. Vernon/Burlington club will host the “Luck of Irish” game night. Greg has tickets. The March 16th Ferndale Chamber Lunch will be attended by Jake and Sharon. The Windward Interact Club will assist with the March 30th Career Fair. And on April 20th, Dale and Tim will attend the Ferndale Chamber meeting.

Happy Bucks: Tim was happy for the nice time in AZ. He and Pati enjoyed the sunshine and a trip to Tombstone and the Caverns. Jake was happy for his 6th grade grandson’s winning basketball game. Marlene was happy for her 11th Rotary anniversary even though it went unnoticed. Ken was just happy. Bill was happy for Ground Hog’s day, but not the prediction of more winter. Sharon gave an IOU for the sunshine and her fast-growing puppy. Rollo is very happy his daughter only has 4 more months of college. Pati was happy for our guests. Nancy was happy to be able to do make-ups with us. Dominique was happy that Nancy bought lunch for her and Terry. Stan could not remember why he is happy. Greg was happy for his son who just got married and bought a house. Dale was happy for Nancy, Terry, and Dominque being able to join us. He was also happy to have his truck working and it only cost $619, this time.
Finemaster: The Honorable Kenny Richardson took over the duties today to relieve people from seeing Finemaster Marlene several weeks in a row. He began by fining Dale for not reading the bulletin, which clearly stated Marlene’s Rotary anniversary. Rocky was fined $2.00 for Failure to Appear. Bill was fined for blowing Ken’s attempt at fining him for Ground Hog’s day. Anyone who had to go back to the car for their badge was fined $2, but Tim was fined $3 for his weak argument/loophole. Marlene was fined for drafting Ken for Finemaster. Sharon and Greg shared the Jake Smith award for being last in. Dale was fined for not giving Jim Blaney a chance to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. Someone was fined for their phone noises as they turned it off. Anyone not wearing a badge, including himself, was fined. And anyone not knowing what happened this date in history was fined. (Answer: Switzerland granted women the vote in, wait for it, 1979!!)
Banners: Stan did a great job with this one, too! Bill was fined for getting it wrong, but the banners were those of clubs with 20 or more letters in their names. Thank you, Stan!
Program: Char and Chris from Whatcom Mountain Bike Coalition did our program today. Char Waller is the Education Director and has raced professionally while in Breckenridge, CO, as well as racing on the US National team at UCI World Championships in Italy. The mission of the WMBC is to preserve and enhance non-motorized trail access in Whatcom County through stewardship, education, and advocacy. The WCMBC is a 501(c)3 and they work with land managers, elected officials and educational institutions to promote continued and expanded access for Mountain biking and cycling. They have a strong youth involvement and work with Bellingham School District, Lummi Nation Tribal Schools , Mt Baker School District, Ferndale School District and the Boy Scouts among others. They reach around 6,200 kids per year, giving many a 1st chance at learning to ride. Chris discussed some upcoming events and projects and these can be found on their webpage. This was a good program and it is a very good cause.
Drawing: Dale won the door prize which was a bottle of wine. Julie did draw the Ace and walked away with $271.50!
